Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Error 3 - Error loading [PathAlias.ADB_Path]

Hey everybody. First off, I am a total newbie, not only to A5, but databases in general. I have spent 3 nights working on this problem, but nothing has changed. I am pretty sure the problem lies with my profile, but I have gone over it too many times to count, and still get this same error. Everything works fine in 'live preview", but I get the error as soon as I try using the WAS. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Error 3 - Error loading [PathAlias.ADB_Path]\web_pricing.dbf: The system cannot find the path specified. \[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\web_pricing.dbf

Nevermind. Made some changes in the setting area and got it to work.

Thanks. I HATE letting a computer beat me. But at the same time, I hate wasting too much valuable (and scarce) time on one problem. I'm really liking what I see with A5, but for someone who is used to doing everything with a spreadsheet, it is a steep learning curve.

I am having the same error and have looked and looked at the a5_application.a5i
web config file and my path is correct so Doug what did you do?

            Hey Nick,

I was making so many changes, and didn't write anything down, that I can't promise this is what did it, but I think it may have been.

When I was in the Web Projects Control Panel, I choose on the top Alpha Five menu bar, View -> Settings -> Directories and set the default directory for Open database/New database to the folder where my project is. I also made many changes in my aliases, but I think that this is the one that made it all work. Let me know if this does it for you. Good luck.

            Doug

Doug thanks but here was my problem and a word to all, I loaded the WAS from CD and the version was really old. The a5_application.a5i file has all the setting in it and because of my install I had to change it so I made many changes and even used the original one, when that did not work after 3 hours, I said well lets see if the software needs an update-that did it the CD's were really old versions. After the update my a5_application.a5i file worked fine, of course now I have to have some fun cause my named connections are different on the live site version dev!!!!!

              Thanks

PS my CD were April 28th purchase!
