Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Import Reports From another Project

    Hi everybody,

Im working with alpha five for past 6 months, here is my first posting.
Im developing web application using platinum edition.we are team of four.now the project is almost complete and on implementation stage.i imported web components and .a5w pages successfully and can publish as well.now facing problem when i need to import reports from my team members project and compile together.
What i have done so far is in file menu, database properties i added the alb file of my team members.
Is that right way ?or did i need to follow any other steps as well? and since i imported alb file from my team members pc on network, my reports path is still showin network path.
It is impossible for me to go n change the path on each report to my local Pc .alb path.
Is there any simple way to do it?

When you select File, Database Properties, Libraries and you select a .alb file, you are attaching that library. You are not importing it.

The reports that are in the external .alb file are still in the external .alb file.
And the .alb file is still in its original location on the network.

When you say 'my reports path is still showing network path' what do you mean? Do you mean that the fully qualified report name shows the path to the external .alb file?

    e.g.

    report1@\\machine2\projects\project.alb

Even though the reports have not been imported into the current database, they should still work.

For example, if your current database is called 'ProjectA', then the library for this database is 'ProjectA.alb'. This is where all of the SQL reports that YOU developed are stored.

All of the reports developed by your co-worker are in '\\machine2\projects\project.alb'

However, as long as the connection strings used in your co-worker's machine are defined in your database, all of the reports will work.

There is no easy way through the user interfact to actually 'import' the reports from 'project.alb' into 'projectA.alb' but even if there was, it is unnecessary. (It can be done using Xbasic if you really want to).

My suggestion is that you copy the .alb (and the associated .alm and .alx file) from your co-workers machine and unzip these library files into the same folder as your database. The go to File, Database Properties and attach the library.

I hope I haven't confused you and that this has been helpful.

      Good morning Selwyn,

I want to copy one Report from database 1 into database 2, nothing else. Is there a quick and easy way to open database 1, click on reports, select the report and copy it to memory, then close database 1, open database 2, click on reports and paste it into the 2nd database?

If not, would you consider it for a future release?

      Thanks,
      Rudy

At that point, right click and choose Copy To...

You must copy to another table or set, not a database, since reports are based on same. In some instances it is expedient to add the table upon which the report is based to the second database, copy to, then drop the table from the second database.

This is hidden in the webhelp under the index entry

        Report
        Copy to another database
        There can be only one.

Re: Import Reports From another Project

          Hi Stan

I already copied the Table files to my 2nd application directory. I then added the table to my app with no problem, created an administration form and now I want to add the report that uses the copied table.

I'm confused on how to copy the report over. I realize it's associated to the initial database table howevr, I still do not understand on how to copy it in?

I'll go to your provided link to Copy to another Database.
