Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Report with 6 page layout

I am writing a report that will mimic a 6 page application form (A4 page size).
However a layout design is limited to 2 A4 pages in length.

My report is based on a set.
A possible workaround is to run one report with pages 1 and 2, then run a second report with pages 3 and 4 and finally run a report with pages 5 an 6.
However this makes a print preview impossible. Also, I assume printing to a pdf will not be possible.
This seems a bit cludgy and therefore any suggestions are welcome.

Re: Report with 6 page layout

    Hi Gary,

Use a printer that can take A3 paper and select Letter rather than Report.

Select paper size A3, now you can put 4 x A4 pages on it.

One sheet of A3=4 pages A4.

A good A3 printer will have duplex printing, so make sure you have the new page line where bottom of the A4 would be.

Now if you have 2 letter designs that will give you a front and back cover.

What I did was to design each A4 page first and then copy and paste onto each section of the A3 page.

      Keith,
      Thank you for the suggestion.
Interesting idea but I do not have an A3 printer. Unfortunately though this still only gets 4 pages when I need 6.
I wanted to lay fields over the image in an Alpha report and print the completed form. I got the image of the form from a PDF.
A Word document would be much better as I would just do a Word merge.
I could rebuild the whole document in Word but it is a lot of work.
I hope there are other possibilities...

        Gary,
Greetings from across the .... Westgate. :)

How about trying to put each of your pages in a subreport with a page break at the bottom of each subreport to force a new page

          Hi Tim,
I tried your suggestion before my call for help. The problem is that a sub-report does not have a "grow-to-fit" only shrink so as each sub-report is a page long, you can only fit 2 sub-reports - unless I am missing something?

            Hi Gary,

Lets start this from the beginning, you say you want to mimic a 6 page Application form. Is this before or after it has been completed? If is before the applicant has entered any data then it does not need to be built on a set.

I assume the printed document will be 3 pages of A4 printed on both sides.

            Which will give 1+2, 3+4 and 5+6.

How about only one report per page, and the print run built in AS will print pages 1-3 stop with a message to take pages from printer and return them to print on the other side, now print pages 4-6.

Gary the attached zip contains just a table with a report. The report has 6 sub reports each a full page in size. (the actual subreport, not the representation of the subreport in the main detail section) The report ends up displaying as 6 full pages. Attach the table to any app you have handy. I made it in Alphasports.

                Tim,
I have been away and just returned to find your suggestion.
                It works!
I could swear I tried something similar without success. It was a lot more complicated than your example but importantly you have proved to me that it is possible.
                Thank you for your assistance.
