Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Row color properties w. xbasic?

    Robin,

    I saw your post and found a couple of the examples in my Help file...I believe they were from Geoff Meredith and for sure Tim Kiebert. I combined what they did and what I had done into one....I also added a color picker for custom colors but it is not done really--it changes all the column text to the same color but gives the idea anyway. When opening check out the form called browse_text based on Browse_1 table. Dunno what Alpha did but even my attachment is not available in this post.

    Have fun! Any questions you know how to reach me! :-)

      Re: Row color properties w. xbasic?

      Thanks Mike for the example. What I am working on is to change the row color dynamically based on a related group of records in the browse.

      stylecomp.jpg

      This is the code I put in the OnInit event for the form and browse and in the form's OnFetch event:

      Code:
      dim rw1 as c
      dim rw2 as c
      dim n1 as n
      dim n2 as n
      rw1 = style_key.value+"-1"
      n1 = tablecount("compyarn","compkey = "+quote(rw1))
      browse1.cell[1].count = n1

      rw2 = style_key.value+"-2"
      n2 = tablecount("compyarn","compkey = "+quote(rw2))
      browse1.cell[2].count = n2
      browse1.repaint()
      I am getting a bit of a color flash in the browse from the OnFetch event, but so far it seems to be working well. I enabled 2 row colors in the browse properties and set the colors and default count (1) there. I only needed 2 alternating colors to set off the groups regardless of how many yarns there may be in the group (one stripe pattern has 5 - and could be more).

      The script still needs work since adding a 3rd composition (unlikely...) would probably screw it up. Still testing... I probably need to use the mod() function (where is Stan?) to make this work for odd or even composition #'s instead of the way I did it.

        I would have to see a sample table before commenting on whether a third composition would mess things up and if mod() could be used to alternate the row colors. You can probably eliminate the flashing issue by adding or utilizing an existing index (on compkey) and changing to dbcount.

        dbcount("compyarn","indextagname",rw1)
        There can be only one.

          I thought of using dbcount() but didn't have the index. I don't know if a stripped down sample would work - there are a lot of tables linked into this form, but I'll give it a try... the compositions are added using vars in a script; you can't add them directly in the browse.

            Re: Row color properties w. xbasic?

            If you want the color equation for odd and even rows based on the comp key field it looks like it would be

            Odd rows
            mod(val(right(alltrim(Comp),1)),2)=1
            Even rows
            mod(val(right(alltrim(Comp),1)),2)=0

            Where Comp is the field represented in the comp key column.

            Of course you have to set the same color equation for each column as opposed to the row but you can use the right-click, Advanced, Copy selected properties and paste to the rest once one is set..

              Here's a zip to play with: (I used Mike's adb without his tables)

                Re: Row color properties w. xbasic?

                Thanks Stan, the color equation method works much better as there is now no flash as when the color changed with the OnFetch event.
