Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Using a supercontrol

I would like to display an HTML page on a form, then refresh the display (new HTML content) with a button. Which supercontrol should I use and how should I refresh its content?

    Re: Using a supercontrol

    Hi Ed!

Use the Web Content Supercontrol. Just specify the URL.

As for a button to refresh the page, this works (WebContent1 is the name of the SuperControl object):

    Code:
    WebContent1.activate()
    sys_send_keys("{F5}")
I don't particularly like this approach but haven't discovered another one yet.

        Steve,

Thanks for the advice, but it did not work. The page sits there unrefreshed. Have you used the other HTML supercontrols?

          Re: Using a supercontrol

What happens if you put your cursor into the control then press the F5 key? Does that refresh the page?

If so, are you sure your button correctly refers to the Supercontrol object name?

On general use of Supercontrols, I've demonstrated several of them in webinars, etc. but haven't yet incorporated them to any live application. Nothing against them here -- just haven't been a priority need for anyone yet. Just a matter of time though... I'm particularly interested in developing the XDialogs embedded on a form.

The screen flashes, but the content does not refresh. I hate to say it, but why do I have to guess how to use a feature of the product I just bought?

              Re: Using a supercontrol

I never did figure out how to refresh the page. However, a different solution works fine - just change the filename that the webcontent control is loading. The control apparently thinks that, if the target page has the same name, there is no need to reload it. In this case I added a timestamp to the filename. This is not a particularly elegant solution, since it litters the directory with lots of old files, but I will fix that.

                Re: Using a supercontrol

Based on your observation and description, I'll bet that SuperControl uses http_get_page() or http_get_page2() to fetch the web page. In this case, and others (speaking from experience here) caching can be an issue/problem. Sounds like you figured that out and knew how to solve it.
