Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Help with 500 Internal Server Error

I'm getting the following error whenever a web page tries to access a table( in this case it is the "tbl_company.dbf" table):

    500 Internal Server Error
    "Script Error
    Error:Script: /index.a5w line:38
    company_name = alltrim(table.external_record_content_get("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\t
Error loading [PathAlias.ADB_Path]\tbl_company.dbf: The system cannot find the path specified.
    \[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\tbl_company.dbf"

if I hard code the script on the "index.a5w" page and replace "[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\tbl_company.dbf" with "C:\a5\data\tbl_company.dbf" the page will run properly.

I have not changed the Profile for the project and it was working fine before the client got a new server. No 500 errors. The client says the new server is set up exactly like the old server and I believe him.

The client is using Win Server 2003.
    The webroot is "C:\a5\a5webroot".
The data file is located at "C:\a5\data'.
    WAS is using port 80.

Attached is my Project Profile. In the interest of client security, I've changed the FTP address, user name, password and base url, but what's shown is correct as far as to how the profile is set up.

These are the defined path and connection Aliases:

    [PathAlias.ADB_Path] = c:\a5\data
    [PathAiias.Image File Reference] = c:\a5\data\Images
    [PathAiias.Image File Reference] = c:\a5\data\Alpha-Images
    [PathAlias.EXE_Path] = A5.GET_EXE_PATH()

I'm at a loss here, I'm just not able to see what the problem is and I'm sure it is something simple.

As always any and all help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Jas

Re: Help with 500 Internal Server Error

    James,
Have you tried taking the .dbf out and testing it?
    Instead of [PathAlias.ADB_Path]\tbl_company.dbf:
    Perhaps [PathAlias.ADB_Path]\tbl_company

    "[pathalias.adb_path]\tbl_company"

Re: Help with 500 Internal Server Error

It's because of the change Alpha made to the Alias at publishing time. Go to View > Settings > Preferences > Web Publishing > Alias Resolution and change it to Publish Time. Then republish.

I'm suprised more have not reported a problem. The change by Alpha was sudden and I have not even had time to review the change or fully understand it. I know Pat and a few others have, but not yet in my shop.

Re: Help with 500 Internal Server Error

I'm getting the same kind of error on 4 of my pages. I'm using V8 however.

I didn't have this issue when I tested many times on my computer but I'm getting them now on the web.

              500 Internal Server Error
              "Script Error
              Error:Script: /ResumeSave.a5w line:158
              tbl.enter_end(.T.)
error: lookup([pathalias.adb_path]\counts,Recnum= 1,Jsreplylife) The system cannot find the path specified.
              \[pathalias.adb_path]\counts.DBF"

Funny thing is the lookup script error states this lookup resides in my ResumeSave.a5w page. It does NOT, not even close. I don't know where or how it could be thinking this lookup exists in ResumeSave. This lookup does not exist in my other problem pages either. I do use this lookup on other pages however and they work fine.

Two pages contain dialogs, 2 are code only.

In my dialogs, I get this error:
              Errors in: event.AfterValidate code:
error: lookup([pathalias.adb_path]\counts,Recnum= 1,Jsreplylife) The system cannot find the path specified.
              \[pathalias.adb_path]\counts.DBF

Again, this lookup is nowhere within this dialog's AfterValidate code.

The error seems to occur on pages that post to same table (jsreplyhistory) which contains a field "Expires" with the field rule: IF(DATEREPLIED+LOOKUP("[pathalias.adb_path]\counts","Recnum= 1","Jsreplylife")<DATE(),"Delete","Active").

I've packed and reindexed the counts and jsreplyhistory tables. Tested these pages again on localhost, all work fine but don't on the web.

              Any pointers appreciated.

              Thanks

Re: Help with 500 Internal Server Error

I've never tried, but I don't think you can use path alias in a Field Rule. An Alias is replaced at publishing time (or runtime) with the defined path. The fact that your alias is showing up in the error like this [pathalias.adb_path] means it is not being replaced with the string value.

Re: Help with 500 Internal Server Error

                  Hmmm
Well I currently use [pathalias.adb_path] in a few field rules of different tables. When I look at the "Expired" field (using the field rule) in jsreplyhistory on the web all records are displaying the correct result.

Again, the affected pages all work just fine when I publish to my computer and test under localhost.

Could there be any other possibilities here?

Update: Steve I do believe you are correct. I may have to retool 3 tables. I do seem to be getting the errors when I test other tables using field rules implementing a lookup method. When I take out the rules and make it user entered, the errors go away. I will test this more.

Re: Help with 500 Internal Server Error

Update: That was it Steve. Thank you for responding and helping me.

I redefined the field rule (not using [PathAlias.ADB_Path]) and the problems went away. Ended up redefining a few other field rules in other tables as well.

Too bad it worked fine in localhost but not on the web. So, if you plan on using your project on the web, don't use [PathAlias.ADB_Path] in your table's field rules!

                    Thanks again Steve.
