Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

"Remember Me" property not available in login

Help says that under Layout Options > Layout Type there should be a "Show Remember Me?" option. I don't see it. It goes on to explain that, if enabled and selected, a cookie is stored with the user's login info. I assume this means that, next time the user opens the DB, he'll automatically be logged in and go to the first appropriate view (which is exactly what I'm trying to do).

Anyone know how to expose this property?

Re: "Remember Me" property not available in login

Getting to the Remember Me option takes a couple steps:

    - In Web Security Configuration, select either Login Expiration Policy that starts with "Defined Time..."

    - Adjust the Login Expiration Time as desired

    - Check the Remember Me checkbox.

    - Open your Login component and check the Show Remember Me checkbox on Layout.

    - Publish

Users who check that box will stay logged in IF they do not specifically log out. (Same as our message board here.)

Re: "Remember Me" property not available in login

I should mention there are some programming issues with Remember Me.

If a user checks Remember Me, closes their browser (waits some period of time) and goes back to the website, they will still be logged in BUT any session variables associated with that person's previous sesison wil be GONE. And anytime you restart the server, all session variables are deleted too.

However, their "Ulink" session variable will still exist, actually it gets recreated when they hit the site.

So, you have to think about any session variables you created while the person is in your application, and ensure (if they are needed) that they are recreated, repopulated when any user comes back. I do this by establishing all of them in a header.a5w page that is included on all pages.

This is usually not a problem if they go straight to a "home" page, but if they try to go directly to some page where a session variable is needed, perhaps to filter records, unless you deal with it, the session variable will not exist and the page will (normally) show no records. So they can't "pick up where they left off", but they are logged in.

Thanks, Steve! There's no way I could have figured that one out by myself.

Maybe I spoke too soon. I've set things up as per the previous responses. I monitor my Cookies directory, and see that, when I click on a link to my A5 server, a Cookie is created immediately upon entry to the Login component. I enter ID and password, check "remember your login?", and go the first page of my app.

I then close the browser (w/o logging off). I click on the server link again. When the login component appears, the previously saved cookie disappears! I had been assuming it would be read, and I'd be taken immediately to the first page of my app.

          Have I missed something? Thanks.
