Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Q/A Approach

I've searched the forum and am looking for an approach to a question answer type of program.

I need to present a question to the user and based upon the answer..pose another question with another answer, etc until at the end I come to a result.

I want to make it dynamic in the sense that the questions and answers are updateable in a table and linked but was wondering if anyone has come across this type of program and provide some insight.

I'm trying to start with a dynamic way of updating the questions and answers but realize that I may have to hard code the if/then.

Basically the user will be presented with a "form" that changes based upon their answer and then subsquently "scores" the result.

    Hi Omar,

This is very easy to do, but first you have to consider how you are going to get your users answer the questions.

eg. The question is: What do you consider the Government should do about Global Warming? Many people will have many different answers to which you could not analyze.

If you were to change the question so the user had a restricted answer to Yes or No. Then you can make your questionnaire dynamic. That way one question can follow another according to the answer given by using conditional fields. Or open different forms with a different set of questions.

There is a call centre here in the UK that asks questions to travelers who need to take out travel insurance. They use an Alpha application to do just what you want to do.

Fortunately the answers are static. I didin't want to create a bunch of forms but rather have one form change dynamically.

I think I can accomplish at eh beginning as the user can press yes or no and have a script to change the question. I'm thinking the buttons will have a long list of conditions and I have to figure out a way to make that dynamic as well.

      Thanks for the reply!

        Hi Omar,

I think you are thinking too hard.

Start with a simple table with 3 or 4 Logical fields.

Put these on a form withe a text question beside each one.

Next step, create a conditional object and put the second question there with the condition that you can see this question if the first answer is True.

Build up from there step by step. That will be the best way to keep control of what is happening. Watch out for the Tab stops.

            stuck...
I really want to use the power of a database to dynamically change the content of a questionnaire.

The result of the algorithm ends up being a "score" simple number.

            For Example:

Does the Patient need help when eating meals or administering parenteral or enteral nutrition?

            (Yes Button) (No Button)

User clicks either or and display changes to ask next question or conclude the questionnaire and provide a score.

            I have three tables:
            Questions
Answers - Multi select to compose a sentence
            Header

The Answers have a second question id to reference the next question to select based upon the algorithm.

The header uses a guid, date of study, user, score, etc.

I'm stuck on cycling through the algorithm.

            Any help is greatly appreciated...
