Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    If CurrentForm.Controls.RadioButton = "1" then

    DIM ps as P
    DIM pm as P
    pm.from = "[email protected]"
    pm.from_alias = "andrewmackenzie"
    pm.subject = "New Requisition Order"
    pm.message = "Please see attached a new requisition order to be processed"
    'optional header fields
    pm.lRelated = .F.
    ' send message
    IF email_smtp_open(ps, "my smtp outgoing address", "25", "andrewmackenzie", "my password")
    email_smtp_send(pm, ps)
    END IF
    Email_smtp_close(ps)

    end if

    Or do you want the xbasic for the whole component aswell?

        Ye i know, i just tried it with quotes just out of boredom, forgot to take them out again.

        So it should be

        If CurrentForm.Controls.RadioButton = "1" then

        DIM ps as P
        DIM pm as P
        pm.from = "[email protected]"
        pm.from_alias = "andrewmackenzie"
        pm.subject = "New Requisition Order"
        pm.message = "Please see attached a new requisition order to be processed"
        'optional header fields
        pm.lRelated = .F.
        ' send message
        IF email_smtp_open(ps, my smtp outgoing address, 25, "andrewmackenzie", "my password")
        email_smtp_send(pm, ps)
        END IF
        Email_smtp_close(ps)

        end if

            Obvious mistake! But yet still variable not found. When typing this line:

            IF email_smtp_open(ps, mysmtpaddress ,25 , "andrewmackenzie" , "mypassword")

            it comes up with a template to use in this form...

            (P psocket, C smtp-server [, N port [, C username [, C password [, C mode ]]])

            what is the 'mode' section about?

              Your SMTP address should be a string too... otherwise it tries to insert a variable called mysmtpaddress...

              It worked for me when I replaced the details in the email_smtp_open() function with our own mail server details & my username & password... so there is nothing wrong with the code once you put pm.to = "avalidemailaddress"

              Mode - as per help files, it is used to specify "SSL" if you want to use that...

                Re: Email Button on a Web Page

                Would you please post your AfterValidate code exactly as it is, no substitutions except if you need to for the SMTP server name for privacy. And in that case still show exactly how you are providing a value for that parameter.

                Every time you post your 'code', it looks a little different.

                    Sorry Steve must have posted that just as you posted yours, but here is the final product anyway thanks

                    If CurrentForm.Controls.RadioButton = "1" then

                          Re: Email Button on a Web Page

                          You can attach files from anywhere on your server or LAN provided you use the proper syntax - "\\servername\share\folder\filename.xxx" or "c:\mydocs\myfolder\filename.xxx". There is no "root folder", you need to provide the full path. (Relative path if your docs are inside the Document Root, but I doubt they are).

                          The server will not prompt for anything, you have to specify the exact location and filename.

                            You can try out code without building a user interface first...

                            Should i go there for my next problem then, which is... where is the root folder for the reports to add as an attachment
                            In a web dialog's AfterValidate event, go to Insert - > Genies and select the report one... this takes care of both arguments and paths.... just remove the line currentform.RedirectTarget = session.session_url + "tempreport.pdf?" + time("hms3") and replace it with the code for emailing the report instead....

                              So what are the reports saved as? i cant seem to find the actual report in the folder the whole application is saved in. The closest i have came is

                              C:\documents and settings\andrew3\my documents\alpha five databases\complete design 2\Purchase Orders....

                              OR

                              Purchase Orders@c:\documents and settings\andrew3\my documents\alpha five databases\complete design 2.alb
