Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

        - (Time Subtraction)

Is there anyone on this earth who made this thing to work? this is an example from alpha5 help file.. please let me know if somebody managed to make it work? this is the second time i am posting here for this, and this is the second day i am wasting my time on this very basic function which is very easy to get it done in other applications..

have gone through the forums, but couldn't find.. i urge who developed this alpha5 to come forward and talk about it.. if no one from the alpha family wants to talk about the solution here, then whats the point having a forum here?

        - (Time Subtraction)

        Syntax

        Result as D = Operand1 as Y - Seconds as N

        Seconds as N = Operand1 as Y - Operand2 as Y

        Argument

        Description

        Operand1

        A short time value.

        Operand2

        A short time value.

        Seconds

        A number.

        Description

Time subtraction produces a short time value or number by subtracting an integral or fractional number of Seconds from Operand1.

        Examples

The following example shows how to modify a time variable (type Y) by subtracting seconds.

        dim t2 as Y

        t2 = ctot("12:40")

        ? t2

        = 12:40:00 00 pm

        t2 = t2 - 60

        ? t2

        = 12:39:00 00 pm

The examples you showed in the screenshots work, right??? If not did you change something in them??? If so, WHAT did you change...show us your results, the script. What does not work....what do you expect the results to be???? ...... ...... :)

In other words---help us help you.

if no one from the alpha family wants to talk about the solution here, then whats the point having a forum here?
Well, first off this is a peer supported forum and Alpha staff may or may not read your post...and this fact negates your premise of the purpose of this forum.

            About your problem----
As I stated in your prior thread, how can someone help if you don't present a problem?? Saying you cannot get something to work or that simply something does not work gives nothing for others to try and help.

You have cited an example from the help file (which for some reason I cannot find!!) ---give the link to it. Are you using the example for the "Web Side"?? I don't think so. Here is a link to the help files regarding Date and Time use in web pages.

            http://support.alphasoftware.com/alp..._Functions.htm

I suggest you present a question with ALL relevant information that can be given, with a concise statement of the the problem, and attach a sample database with the problem clearly illustrated if this is such a problem that warrants this.

BTW--I am not versed in the Web side and am only trying to guide you so that you might entice some of the more knowledgeable people here to help you.

LATER EDIT:The reason has become clear after I read this thread--seems like I wasted my time as well... :(

Mike, Sendamail already made it clear his question the starting itself, he already attached two jpg files and just mentioned that that examples provided in alpha is not working. What else one person have to specify to make the problem? as he already attached the jpg, please gfo through that. If we dont have any answers with us better we keep quiet, right..

What else?? :) A LOT!! That is if anyone who has a problem wants as many people involved as possible. Many "helpers" here do not have the time to play 20 questions (or 30 or 40 or...) just to find out specifics....some will do this but why limit responses to just those few?? When I have a question I want as many people here to try and help me as possible. I iterated several things in prior posts as to what to include in any posted problem and am sure there are many more if I wanted to compile a list...the more details the better.

If we dont have any answers with us better we keep quiet, right..
Well, as my posts were but an attempt as stated to unbury this thread, get more webside oriented people involved and to elicit more information regarding the problem, I am at a loss as to why you would feel this way....but I will remember that this is how you wish it handled when you present a problem.

(May all your threads never get buried!! :) )
