Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Showing Records associted with...

I have 2 fields on my form
    NAME
    TITLE

I would like to add a tab to my main form, which would show all the TITLES associated with NAME.

    1. Should I just use the "tab" option from the toolbox or is there a better way.?
    2. How do I go about setting up the ability to show those TITLES on the tab?

    Thanks

If you have one table with name and title - create a set with the the table as the parent and the table as a child - with the linking field as name.

Then design a form based on the set showing the name and title in the form and create a embedded browse based on the child (actually the main table) and it will show only the title for that author. The only problem with this recursive set is that as you key through the names of the parent, there will be more than one entry for the author and it will show up as many times as that author is in the main table.

I would create a table with just the name of the author and any other pertinent data but not the Titles of that author. I would then create another table with name of the author and his/her titles.

Create a set based on the first table with a child of that parent with the titles - linking by name. Then create a form based on this new set, with the parent on the form and an embedded browse showing all the child records, which in this case are the titles. This way an author will be in the main (parent) time only once and all his/her titles will be in the child - when keying through the parent table on the form the authors will only show once with all their title shown beneath in the browse

      FWIW

      Tom

I have attached a zip file showing forms for two sets - form_mainset shows a header and a browse based on the same table (main1) - another mainset2_form shows a header and a browse base on two table - a main table with the author only (main_new) and a child table (main2) with his/her titles.

I could also make a guess that you are doing this in order to finally use the dropdowns to select an ultimate record(s). You might want to do a search on progressive lookups as there has been much discussion and great examples.

Check out the following web page and check out the Turbo Demo there by clicking on the the arrow next to Using Alpha Five.

Ok there was some good info there.

          This is what I did.
My form has 2 tabs on it.
One tab to enter info, the other tab to view the associated records that go with it.
on tab 2 I created a browse and dropped it in on the form

On the tabs "events" - "on tab change" I did this.
          1. Open form or browse layout
          2. Open - Form - Entry
          3. Records that match the value in a control on the current form
          4. Filter the value in field - Name
          5. Matches the value in control - A_Name

So all works, until you go back to the main tab, at which point I think I would want it to show all records and then go to the last record.

Still need some help on this, take it easy on me, this is all new to me.
