Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Splash Screen problem with new version AV9 and the New RunEngine ???

I cannot seem to find the Alpha Five splash screen image in the installed folder. What is the name and extension of the image? I want to see the dimensions for customizing one.

Hmm. I must be missing something. I used this for the shortcut and the A5 logo still is the splash. Any advice?
      Code:
      "D:\Program Files\a5v9\alpha5.exe" -SPLASH="D:\Program Files\5v9\A&D_Splash.bmp"

        Kevin

Check the spelling of the bitmap in your "-SPLASH=" statement and the path where your bitmap is stored. I know if the bmp is not where you said it was (path) or is misspelled, Alpha will load the default splash screen

        Only a suggestion

I rechecked it, and found the misspelling and fixed it. But still failure... I put this under "target" in the properties:
          Code:
          "D:\Program Files\a5v9\alpha5.exe" -SPLASH=D:\Program Files\a5v9\adsplash.bmp
I renamed it to "adsplash.bmp" thinking the underscore may cause issues.

Since 'Program Files' has a space in it, you need the quotes around the splash file name.

Use the A5 create a shortcut menu option to help with the building of a shortcut.... tools - create shortcut

            Code:
            "D:\Program Files\a5v9\alpha5.exe" -SPLASH=[SIZE=4][COLOR=red]"[/COLOR][/SIZE]D:\Program Files\a5v9\adsplash.bmp[SIZE=4][COLOR=red]"[/COLOR][/SIZE]
Note that the alpha5.exe entry has quotes around the drive - directory - program name.... It also has the same issue - hence the quotes.

You may want to consider having the splash screen with your database for VISTA compatability.....

Tried that as well. Still get the standard a5 splash screen...:(

Just the same thought as I posted before, if alpha can't find the bitmap it will show its default bitmap.

Suggestion - create a shortcut using the shortcut genie which allows you to click on the bitmap you want to include. See if that procedure produces the splash screen you want - it will create a startup file.

                Again just a thought

                    Kevin

You put this in the target

                    Code:
                    "D:\Program Files\a5v9\alpha5.exe" -SPLASH="D:\Program Files\a5v9\adsplash.bmp"
I notice there is no .adb file mentioned.

Without the .adb file alpha will just open as if you click on the alpha.exe and then wait for you to open a database. It will always use the default splash screen.

I may be misreading what you placed in the target.

                    FWIW

                      Kevin,
Just as Tom indicates, you must be missing something very small as I just worked out the correct context too--I was missing the -SPLASH= .

In Addition, make sure you are not using an .ico instead of a bmp, jpg, or png for the image. Use one of the latter instead of an ico. I stated this mostly for others who may happen upon this thread later as you have indicated a bmp.

EDIT--I only have the alpha.exe in my shortcut and it opens with the bmp chosen so do not think that is the cause

                          Kevin,
Looks as if you have followed the steps correctly. A couple of things to try, although I am not sure if they will make any difference....try a different bitmap in case there is a problem with the one you are using and also try a much smaller bitmap in case the one you are using is large.

What happens if, on the client you try to shadow this from, you paste the full path to the bitmap into the address bar in Windows explorer?

I think actually you might have to have the image in the directory your runtime is installed in, or your developer copy, I do seem to recall a problem with paths that went away if I copied the includes into the runtime directory.

Same result, nada. wen to a bitmap sized at 232x217 and even tried other bitmaps and nothing seems to work. I just don't get it. Maybe if someone knows the location of the stock A5 splash screen image I can use its measurements and see.

I am testing the splash with the full A5 Platinum, which should really not make a difference according to the help documentation. I am beginning to think there is a bug or something.
