    Default Email settings

    I've seen several references to email profiles but have not been able to find a specific answer.

    I need to be able to copy an existing email profile to other computers to avoid having to manually update 100+ systems.

    Is it possible to save a registry entry from a configured machine and create a button in the application to write this registry setting on another machine?

    Thanks

    Try this to capture the profile. Shown when using the interactive editor. Could be written to a text file.

    Code:
    user_data.mail = ""
    :registry.load_settings("init\email",user_data)
    ? user_data
    = active_profile = "Default"
    attach_path = "[exe_folder]\attachments"
    check_interval = 10.000000
    client_alias = "Stan Mathews"
    client_hostname = "bgexvs01"
    client_identity = "SMathews@Houchensindustries.com"
    client_password = ""
    client_username = "smathews"
    formatted_send_option = 4.000000
    inbox = ""
    mail = ""
    mail_hostname = "bgexvs01"
    outbox = ""
    pop_first = .F.
    pop_port = 110.000000
    +profiles.
    receive_autodelete = .F.
    receive_limit = 3.000000
    +sendusing.
    smtp_password = ""
    smtp_port = 25.000000
    smtp_username = ""
    xmailer = ""
    You could then read the text file into a variable and use

    REGISTRY.SAVE_SETTINGS()

    to reverse the process.

    Thanks...

    This is out of my league though ;(

    Can you be more specific how to accomplish the following?

    i need to create a button that loads this registry setting from a configured machine:
    :registry.load_settings("init\email",user_data)

    then write it to a text file called email.txt and save it in the program directory

    then create another button that loads the text file and writes it into the registry from the unconfigured machine

    correct?

    I appreciate the help!

    I think this does that. Use at your own risk and backup the registry before trying. Not my area of great knowledge.

    Canged the display button to refer to the database directory rather than the hardcoded path I had. (Gently suggested to me by a friend.)

    Thought of a fairly easy way to test and verify it works.

    Capture the current profile with the Get Profile button.
    Save a copy and edit the resulting text file in some innocuous way like changing the 5 in this line to 10

    <TimeoutSeconds=5> becomes
    <TimeoutSeconds=10>

    Use the Write settings button. Delete the text file.

    Use the Get Profile button again, Display, and see that the changed entry is in the new text file. Change the new text file or restore the original file and write the original values to the registry.

    I just discovered that this does not work in Windows Vista. I assume it's because of registry privileges.

    Any chance there is a work around for this?

    Thanks

    Did you get any error messages when trying this on Vista. Vista is so convoluted when it comes to administrator, sharing and other security matters because it wants to save ourselves from screwing things up. Otherwise I like it.
