Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to fix

Now what I want to happen is as follows:

In a report I want to have a checkbox tick or simular when in the form I click a checkbox or radio button. The end job is a Fault report (worksheet) with ticks indicating what is wrong with the devise that is in for repair.

Not sure if radio button or checkbox will do the job.

    See attached zip file

    thks

    Re: How to fix

    G'day Graham,

I cant see an ASCII character for a tick.

I would suggest that you produce you report with a different layout with each fault in a column with a x for each item fault you want to show that has a fault.

If the item has no fault do you still want it listed?

      Re: How to fix

Graham, in years past I recall folks recommending use of a calculated field. If the logical table field is True the calc field returns a "character", otherwise it returns a null (empty) string. They then put the calc field on the report layout and choose a font that produced a checkmark corresponding the "character". Perhaps I'm overlooking an easier (newer) approach, but this will work for you if all else fails.

Another messy alternative would be to use a conditional object, placing a bitmap image of the checkmark on the layer of the object corresponding to a True value in the table field.

        Hi Tom,

Looks like we are both on the same lines.

Do you know what the Ascii # is for a Tick?

Keith, I don't think a Tick (check mark) is part of the ascii character set.

The character map indicates the hex is 50 and hex_to_dec("50") yields 80.

                    CHR(80)= P

There is no P in Wingdings2.

Screenshot shows a checkmark on a report. Checkbox accomplished by...

creating calculated field with expression chr(80)
                      placing calculated field on form
                      setting properties, font, to Wingdings2
                      saving

                        .

Interesting application of the usage. I hope your insight gives others some ideas.

My attachment shows a check such as yours in the browse and double clicking on the row inverts the value of the logical field represented - toggling the check on and off.

For those who are interested. I have a field called Done (Logical checkbox) on my main form. When the job is completed it's checked.

On browse I don't us that field but a calculated field called Completed and the following expression. I renamed the browse title to Done.

                            completed = if(done=.t.,chr(80),"")

changed the font to windings 2, centered, bold and increased the size by one point.

This is from Stans brillant mind.

                              Jerry, Stan,

This (my) post is in the 'exactly the same but totally different' category. In other words it is just a heads up to do the same thing using a different method.

Instead of creating a calculated field you can edit the advanced display properties found on the 'other' tab of the column properties. There you can specify the text to display which allows an expression. You would use the same expression as in the calculated field.

Another idea is. If you wanted to have a fancier check mark you could create a custom image and conditionally display that.
