Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Upgrade to Enterprise but no features

I found some old threads which only gave the instructions for the Registry changes - which I did to input my new license. I activated & rebooted but the Desktop version is still listed and none of the new features are available. Anybody have any other suggestions on what I might do to get this to work as Enterprise?

Go into view settings license and add you new license there - that is what I did when I upgraded from Professional to Enterprise.

I checked and it appears there too. When I try to set up a SQL connection string I get the error "No SQL APIs are available", and when I try to import data from an external file, I am told the feature is not available in this addition and I must purchase Enterprise! Do I have to reinstall do you think?

Do I have to reinstall do you think? I'm going from Desktop to Enterprise. Also the 3 other licenses I have from my full copies of Desktop are listed in the Settings. I don't know if I am supposed to keep them or not. I haven't installed any of the new Runtimes yet.

I know very little about the desktop version - it could be that version was NEVER a full version (one that a license change could unlock). You may have to get a full version of Alpha V8 Enterprise and the load your license -but again I don't know a lot about the desktop version.

As far as the other licenses go, I have two Professional licenses that are there and they don't cause any problems.

That would be just my luck - to have to buy Pro first...

Alpha 5 version 8 when shipped is a full version, that means that the professional edition and the enterprise edition are the same build just certain aspects of the program are not activated if you have the professional edition - it is the same program. If you purchased a license for the enterprise edition I would say that you were entitled to the full program as a download. I would contact Alpha Customer Service and request a download site for downloading a full version. Then all you would have to do is just enter your license number and all the advantages of Enterprise would be available to you. I don't know if the Desktop version was a full version with those features only turned on by a license to the upgrade.

Again I would contact customer service and get it worked out - if you paid for an Enterprise license then you are, I would think, be entitled to a full version download.

Maybe someone more familiar with the Desktop and have upgraded may chime in and offer some advice.

I am not exactly sure what the problem was but having more than one version of Alpha may have been it. I was able to rename the Registry folder for v8 and the program directory folder and do a reinstall without losing anything. Then once I was sure I had what I needed, I deleted both of the old and now I am Enterprise!

Thank you Brett for the great support.
