Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Security-System does not work

    Hello,
currently i am testing the v9 and am dealing with bugs or so:
    - the security system seems not to be online, any user i log in can see all buttons and sites, although they should not be able to see them.
    - the declaration of the publishing folder of an own generated profile does not work properly. very annoying bugs around this declaration feature.
    - the preview and the live preview pages do not work always. sometimes and with some a5w-pages the preview does not appear. my live preview does not work at all.
    - a vast amount of features work just sometimes, sometimes they hang on and i am forced to restart the programm

i dont know if these are failures of my own, but i cant help me
    are these bugs "repairable"?

    thx a lot,
    coldo

    Re: Security-System does not work

    Oh dear!
The security does work. It takes a bit of trial and error. If you have set the master password security option to allow access to any form if you haven't set a group and user profile - you have allowed them to see everything.

    1) set the Change Database Security to Grant and NOT deny.
    2) Create users
    3) Put them in groups
Change the Groups access to either Grant or Deny.

You need to do this for all of the users - leaving any out will mean they can get access to anything (See 1)

It really does all work well, but it takes a different min set. Suggest you forget and Access/Cobol/PL1/Adabas Natural things you have been taught. If you can visualise it - A5 has a way of doing it easily.

Apologies to anyone I haven't managed to upset yet.
You are held in a queue and I will get to you soon.

      Re: Security-System does not work

There are no bugs in the areas you describe that I know of. Ignore Teds response as it is for the Desktop security, not web security (sorry Ted).

You likely only have one problem, Enable Security is not checked in the Application Server. Go to Tools > Application Server and check the Enable Security Framework and restart the server. This assumes you are using LocalHost and not publishing to a remote server.

I'm not sure what you mean in your second bullet point, so maybe you can expand. Live Preview is NOT the same as publishing and then viewing. Live Preview is a quick way to see your components and pages as they will appear in browser; often this means they may be missing graphics that have not yet been published to Live Preview. Security is NOT active in Live Preview (except for components viewed with the Live Preview TAB).

        Re: Security-System does not work

        thx for the answers,

i will try to check the Enable Security Framework and restart the server and report for the result later, cause i cant try this right now.

        consider point 2:
when i create my own profile and set the folders to publish my applicaton, the path is not assumed correctly. if i type "c:\myprofile\data" for the data folder, a5 turns it into "c:\a5webfolder\c:\myprofile\data" or so. and after correcting it manually, without "c:\myprofile", things got weirder and a5 presents a string like "c:\a5webfolder\prof\data\data" or so. it looks like a mistake in assuming the path in the right order.

        thx

          Re: Security-System does not work

I assumed below that you were publishing to your Local Host, but it appears you are publishing to a server. So check the Security Framework checkbox on that server's installation of Application Server.

On publishing, the paths can be a bit confusing. Here are some hints:

the entries for where the profile asks for "Folders" never include drive information. If you are publishing via FTP, then the folders are based on the FTP point. So if your FTP address points to c:\ on the server, and if your folder for data is "projectA\data", data files will be published to c:\projectA\data. And the Alias for that project should be [PathAlias.ADB_Path]=c:\projectA\data. The folder for FTP should be something like a5webroot\projectA. This assumes your "Document Root", which is set on the Application Server General tab, is c:\a5webroot (the default). If you are publishing via LAN, it is a little different than this.

          This would give you:

data will be published to - c:\projectA\data
public pages will be published to - c:\a5webroot\projectA
          Alias - c:\projectA\data

Notice that the data folder is OUTSIDE of the document root. This is important.
