Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Problems refreshing data

I am evaluating QReportbuilder. So far, no luck in refreshing data. I've tried everything that other members suggested for gklebon from uninstalling and re-installing the program to creating a new script, etc. Nothing seems to work! I get errors like other members, except the "windows installer". See attachment. I don't know what to do at this point. I would appreciate it, if anyone can help.

    Thanks,

    jvora

That's a new error message for me.. What version of QB are you using?

Instead of refreshing all of the tables, do the company table first and see what happens.

I am using QuickBooks Premier - Accountant Edition 2008. I did try to refresh only company table, and i did get the same error message. When i click cancel on the error message twice, it brings me to the Application Certificate and so on. So it works refreshing data for one table. Then I try to refresh a few more tables instead of all tables, i keep getting the same error message. I have to click cancel on the error message twice to get each table refresh. So ten tables would be 20 clicks because the error window keeps popping up. At the end, the status of the refresh data turns out to be failed.

Let's do a little 'divide and conquer'

From your start menu, go to All Programs, QODBC Driver for QuickBooks, VBDemo

Connect to your currently open QuickBooks company file and press the query button. Then press the tables button. Does the error happen with either or both of these actions?

I'm not sure if i connect to QuickBooks company file correctly, but this is the return error message. Please see attachment. What i did was, i go to connections, add new connections, then try to look into company QuickBooks file, click ok, and this is what i get. But when I open "Machine Date Source" tab and double click on " QuickBooks Data", it gives me the same error message " windows installer".

You may be making this harder than it needs to be.

After installing QRB, there should be a DSN for QODBC for Qreportbuilder with a . as the company name. That period means use the currently open QuickBooks company file.

You should have QuickBooks running with the company file open. You should then be able to read data from the company file.

My suggestion is that you come to the webinar on Thursday morning and we can fix the issues that you have. We may need to connect to your machine to see what is going on there...

We connected and determined that the error was from a bug within QB.

When there are multiple versions of QB on a single machine, an error with integrated applications can occur because of different versions of the Intuit SDK with different versions of QB.

To get around the problem, the program directory of QB has a reboot.bat file in it. Running that bat file resets the dlls that QB uses and eliminates the problem.
Switching from one version to another version sometimes requires that the reboot.bat be run again.. I don't have a definitive answer on it.

But in this case, the reboot.bat and a restart of QB and QRB eliminated the problem....

                  Thanks for your patience.
