Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Email will not send on hosted Application Server. Email Profile name?

    Im trying to send an email. It works locally by connecting to my server email but doesnt work after I publish. I saw where I needed to include the Email Profile name so I added a pm.profile line. Still no luck. My Email Profile name is definitely BC_Notice. I tried setting the Default profile so it has all the same setting as my BC_Notice profile, but that didn't help. It may have to do with the profile but I don't know what am I doing wrong.

    Code:
    if (email_smtp_open(ps, "mail.madeupname.com", 25, "Ken", "Password1")) then

    pm.to = "[email protected]"
    pm.from = "[email protected]"
    pm.subject = "My subject"
    pm.message = "This is the message"
    pm.profile = "BC_Notice"

    email_smtp_send(pm, ps)

    end if

    email_smtp_close(ps)
    Email SMTP Activity Log:

    Looking at the email activity log on my server I see that if I send the email from my local computer the log shows:
    "RCPT To: <[email protected]>"

    If I send it through the Server on my host computer, the logged activity is missing "RCPT To:"

    Re: Email will not send on hosted Application Server. Email Profile name?

    Here is what works:
    1. After setting up the email profile and clicking Test. I get the test email.
    2. I can run the following code in an Interactive Window on my local machine and I get my sample email.

    Code:
    'This code is run from the Interactive Window on my local computer
    dim pm as P
    dim ps as P
    ?email_smtp_open(ps, "mail.madeupname.com", 25, "TestName", "Password1")
    = .T.

        pm.to = "[email protected]"
        pm.from = "[email protected]"
       pm.subject = "BC - my subject"
        pm.message = "this is the message"
        pm.profile = "BC_Notice"
    ?    email_smtp_send(pm, ps)
    = .T.

    ?ps.buffer
    = 250 Requested mail action okay, completed
    What doesn't work:
    1. I can run that exact same code on my server. A .f. reply and no email

    Code:
    This code is run from the Interactive Window on the server
    dim pm as P
    dim ps as P
    ?email_smtp_open(ps, "mail.madeupname.com", 25, "TestName", "Password1")
    = .T.
        pm.to = "[email protected]"
        pm.from = "[email protected]"
        pm.subject = "BC - my subject"
        pm.message = "this is the message"
        pm.profile = "BC_Notice"
    ?    email_smtp_send(pm, ps)
    = .F.

    ?ps.buffer
    = 250 Requested mail action okay, completed
    Please Note: I have replaced the Server Name, Username and Password with made up names so posting this code in your Interactive Window will not work.

    Any ideas. I've tried everything I can think to try.

      Hi Ken,

      I don't have a way to test this but in v8 I did find a "glitch" in using email regarding the "@". Alpha would change the symbol to % % % .

      try changing your
      pm.to = "[email protected]" to
      pm.to = "notice"+chr(64)+"browsecollection.com"

      You might need an eval() also such as
      pm.to = "eval(notice"+chr(64)+"browsecollection.com)"

      same for the pm.from if it works.

      Something else to try if noone else has an idea....
      Mike

        Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it, no luck. There was another post that suggested deleting the Email Profile and recreating it. I tried that too, no luck.

          Alpha Software has a relatively new release of the Alpha Five Server. I upgraded and it fixed the problem.
