Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Is it possible to use A5V8 to convert 300+ word document files into PDF format

It would be nice if it can be done, but how?

As far as I know, the best you could do is extract the text from Word and send it to a memo field and use the Report.saveas() w. the PDF option. You could loop thru the existing files to get all 300.

      Graham,

If you have Word 2007, you could download the MS Office "Save as PDF" add-in.

If you have an earlier version of Word, you could download the free PDFCreator software (I don't think it works with Vista).

You could then write some VBA code in Word (or any other MS Office program) to open each document and save it as a pdf.

If you don't know how to use VBA, I could modify some VBA code I wrote for Excel to do a similar job.

I forgot to mention that there is some useful information about the "Save as PDF" add-in and PDFCreator at www.excelguru.ca

          Graham,

It is also possible to execute VBA code in an MS Office document from within Alpha - see "Translating OLE Syntax examples" in Alpha 5 help.

            Thanks guys,

I'll give it a try tomorrow, exhausted from having spent the afternoon with my grandson. :)
I use Word 2003 and PDF Creator so will look at those first. Never written VBA in my life (except by default when writing macros in Word.)

I am running on XP-Pro... Vista !!! yuk!

not the same PDFCreator, the one I use is an open source windows printer

Open Office can do this with the click of one button.

In addition to Open Office doing this I believe that PDF Creator (from sourceforge, open source) will concatenate PDF's. I know that Bullzip pdf printer (a free program) will do this as well.

I've had a look at all the options, using OpenOffice I get it done in 5 clicks of the mouse to convert each file. Using OLE within A5V8 looks an interesting way to go, can anyone recommend a decent book on the subject, one written in fairly simply terms?

                    Thanks

I have not tested the solution from the link below but looks like it is what you are looking for. It creates a macro in Open Office so that you can call it from a batch file. My thought would be to ignore the batch file all together and make the call directly with Alpha.

I found the command OLE.CREATE() in the help file with an example that opens a Word template and saves the file to a document (.doc). Presumably this could be changed to do what I want, but using Open Office.
