    Default HTML Advice

So, I'm trying to use Dreamweaver (latest version - CS4) to build my pages and Alpha for components.

Is Alpha limited to HTML 3.2? It seems like Alpha reverts the XHTML that DW builds to HTML 3.2, which creates problems.

Is there a way to keep my XHTML code intact, insert components and save the pages as a5w?

    Hope that makes sense.

    Thanks.

    Alex,

The WYSIWYG screen will change the html, but the source screen will not, so you want to set the preferences to open in source mode and never go to WYSIWYG without saving, so you can get your xhtml back easily.

Of course, that's a catch22 because you can only insert components on the WYSIWYG screen.

Here's what I do. I create my html like I want it, then, in another blank page, I insert the components in WYSIWYG. Then, I switch back to source and copy and paste the source into my first page.

Once you've got a few pages with both grids and dialogs in them, then it's easier to duplicate the page and use Ctl-F (search and replace) to change the component name.

Get used to it. I don't think we'll be seeing any change to the WYSIWYG for the forseeable future.

    Pat,

Your advice was really helpful. I have another question:)

    Do you use Dreamweaver templates?

It would be really nice to use the template because the template automatically updates the pages created from the template. However, I don't think the template will update a5w pages.

I appreciate your input & advice.
