Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Now you can develop Alpha5 Xbasic code in your favorite developer tool

First the easy question. My virus checker AVG Pro also flags the executable PGPre.exe as a virus. Yes, it's definitely a false positive. PGPre is written in AutoIt and there AVG does not yet know how to deal with it. So I just ignore it.

Secondly, does PGPre work with Eclipse. I have never tried it. As I understand it though I would imagine that the key question though is if there is a plug in available for Alpha5 so that it can work with Eclipse. And I imagine the answer is no. But it is possible to create one from the syntax files I used to generate the UltraEdit plug in from. I would need to do some more investigation on this question though to be sure. In the meantime if you want to try it out, let me know how you get on.

      Brett,

Thanks. Yes, my virus checker is Eset's NOD32. Rather a false positive than let an error in.

I'm going to check out adding it to eclipse. I use it a lot for JavaScript, php, etc. so it'd be nice to amalgamate everything. Also, Eclipse is rather ubiquitous, so this could be good.

Weird about Autoit. Never heard of it, then ran across it independently earlier today on a site where I got a MD5 hash generator - twice in a day. Looks interesting as well.

Again, thanks for your input. I'll get back to on the Eclipse thing

Re: Now you can develop Alpha5 Xbasic code in your favorite developer tool

My sincere apologies to everyone who has been getting false positive from their anti-virus software when trying to run a PGPre compile in Alpha5. I too have been beset with this problem and can confirm first hand how annoying the problem is. So here's the permanent fix.

My anti-virus software is AVG, the pay version. With this it is not sufficient to tell AVG to ignore the file concerned (it's named 'PGPreCompiler.exe'), you have to tell AVG to ignore it permanently. You do this in AVG as follows.

To exclude a directory or a file from Resident Shield scanning, please proceed as follows:

          1. Open the AVG User Interface (Click on Start -> All Programs -> AVG)

          2. Click on Tools -> Advanced settings.

          3. In the left pane select "Resident Shield" -> "Directory Excludes" or "Excluded files".

          4. Use the "Add Path" or "Add" button to choose the directory or file to be excluded.

          5. Confirm the changes using the "OK" button.

Problem now fixed! Your anti-virus software may not be AVG but there should be a similar procedure to follow as above. Thank you for your attention.
