Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Disappearing records in embedded browse

    I have 3 embedded browses on a form: Browse1, Browse2, Browse3.
I enter a record in browse1, click in browse2 to enter a record, the record entered in browse1 disappears, click in browse3 to enter a record, the record entered in browse2 is still there, then click in browse1 to reenter a record, record in browse3 disappears, etc.... Very inconsistent behavior of A5. I deleted all the files and restarted anew, same inconsistency. Not reassuring at all.
    DB attached.

Using Build 1847_3216 I cannot replicate the fault you're seeing, whether I use the default form for your set or whether I use your custom form. Both seem to work just fine.

Can you supply more specific instructions (keystroke by mouse click) so I can verify I'm actually doing what you do?

      Hi Tom:
      I have 1847 - 3216

      - create a parent record then:
      - enter data in 1st Browse/Phonenbrs, data sticks
      - click in the 2nd browse/emails enter data
      - click in the 3rd browse/ccnbrs the data entered in the browse2 disappears leaving a blank row in browse2
      - click in browse1 or in a parent field , the data entered in browse3 disappears leaving a blank row in browse3
Now if you reenter data in the empty row in browse2, or in browse3, the data sticks

Re: Disappearing records in embedded browse

I turned off continuous enters for the form and it seems to be behaving. Not much experience with three child tables all linked one-to-many and referential integrity on.

Gaby, I see some of the problems you describe now. Seems to be related to how Alpha saves (or doesn't save) the new record when focus shifts from browse to browse. Try pressing F9 after entering the new record in each browse, and BEFORE clicking the new record line in the NEXT browse. Does the problem go away?

Hi Stan: I replicated the issue with and without the continuous enter.

Tom: yes it does. But i mean pressing F9 for each entry is not very convenient.

Tell Alpha to do that for you.

Ondepart event code for each browse...

Re: Disappearing records in embedded browse

Yes, F9, fixes things here, too. Makes no difference if referential integrity is enabled. Makes no difference if continous enters is enabled.

Gaby, you might want to change the display width for the Name field on your form. It's currently set to 4

Re: Disappearing records in embedded browse

The code sys_send_keys("{F9}") works half the time.

I was curious to see how this issue was handled in Alphasports; hummm... you can store only 1 phonenbr, 1 email on the customer form.

It seens to me that A5 cannot handle more that 1 embedded browse for data entry.

What does A5 has to say about disappearing records in browses on a parent form?

                    sys_send_keys("{F9}") works consistently for me.

Would you mind walking me through a specific sequence where it fails. Again, keystroke by mouse click, please.

                      Hi Tom:
I restructured the set to include only 1 child with 3 FKs instead of 3 child tables. It seems to be working fine with this structure. In case I get inconsistent results I'll post a message. see attached.
I have a workable solution now and can move forward.
Thanks for your help ans Stan's help

Forgot to mention that if you click <new record> A5 creates an new row, if you change your mind and click elsewere the empty row is saved. I then have to delete it, I can live with that. Thanks again.

I have 1888-3221 now and it seems that with this new release, records no longer disappear.
