Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

WAS activation error on Server 2008

I am trying to install and configure a fully updated application server v8 on Windows Server 2008.
When I first tried to activate the license number, a message box stated the UAC needed to be temporarily disabled.
After doing this, I now get the following code error when I click activate:

    Script UI_DLG_BOX:Activation Result Line 6
    H.Object.Refresh
    Property Not Found
    H.Object.Refresh Not Found
Is there a way around this or is Windows Server 2008 a non starter for the WAS app?

    Regards John

Has this old post been solved.

I am testing to install Version 8 server(latest patch) to Amazon Cloud and to activate it and I got this same error?

So I can not activate the server. Everything else has gone ok.

Is the activation method same in server versio 8 and 10?

    Added later:

I keep this instance one day running, if there is a solution to this. If not I terminate the instance.

Ken, I am not able to duplicate this problem activating V10 on 2008 or 2008 R2. Try V10 on your server instance and if you have an activation issue, we can investigate it more fully for you.

I did change to Server 2003 and there was not any problems, but I am waiting Lenny to deactivate my license to fully see how the process go.

I think here may be a problem with Alphas license system (not Alphas fault). If you keep your instance running all the time everything is ok. But if you stop your instance and start again the name of the computer(=instance) changes and here can be a problem. You can rename your system back to original name, but will WAS license system accept this that I don't yet know.

It is very sad if we can't get WAS running in Amazon Cloud. It would be a perfect solution for developers. Alphas Community will lost a lot.

But I will see this when I get my license deactivated by Lenny and I continue this test.

Ken, I replied to your email last week and have been waiting to hear back. I have gone ahead and reset your activation anyway.

But you are correct in that Alpha's licensing is dependent on the machine name, so different instances with different names would not be able to reuse the activation key. In this way, our activation is not very "Amazon friendly", and it is just one of many considerations we have in mind as we are redesigning our activation mechanisms.

            Thanks
