Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Charting with SimpleChart...

As suggested, I am trying to work with SimpleChart's ActiveX objects via QReportBuilder. While I have the objects and can add them to a Report in Design Mode, I am not having much luck getting chart...and help materials aren't really aimed at QReportBuilder use (More Alpha Five directly).

Can someone provide some guidance on use within QReportBuilder itself or, perhaps, cover at an upcoming webinar session (I will be gald to tune in).

This is not just 'interest' anymore, client is acquiring these tools and will need my help to get it all working.

    Thanks.

    Re: Charting with SimpleChart...

    Hi Frank,
I have only done a little with the SimpleChartLite that is included with Alpha and QReportBuilder. I have been developing a function for SimpleChartLite that will create the Bar, Line, and Pie charts directly from the function once the activeX object is placed on a report....but the Pie chart part of it is not quite completed yet. All a user would have to do is fill in the parameters in the function once it is placed in the OnPrintInit event of a report and the chart would be produced. A basic one that is, but actually most charts produced with SimpleChart are just that.

If this is something you want to be able to do yourself with script/coding, then the information is available, though a bit sparse.
There were only 2 or 3 bits of information that I used to do this...1 or 2 were messageboard threads and the other was the SimpleChart4.chm help file that is included with Alpha and QReportBuilder (found in their install folder/directory). I don't have the threads I used but a search should produce them.

      Mike,

Appreciate your feedback. I have the helpfile you mentioned and will look for the discussion threads.

Keep me posted about your progress...what you are doing sounds very useful.

        Re: Charting with SimpleChart...

Maybe I am being very obtuse, but I can't find the "SimpleChartLite that is included with Alpha and QReportBuilder."

I am looking at the QReportBuilder in design mode right now, and just don't see it. I also can't find any mention in documentation that I have come across or in any video tutorials. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

        Thanks,
        Ilga

          Re: Charting with SimpleChart...

SimpleChart is a separate program. You can find it at http://www.simplechart.net and can download an eval version.

It is 'included', in the sense that QReportBuilder / Alpha is aware of it and, if you install the eval version, you can then get to its functions thru ActiveX controls in designer.

There is info on how to do this included with documentation / help for SimpleChart.

              Re: Charting with SimpleChart...

              Hi,
SimpleChartLite , however, is included in Alpha and QReportBuilder. Accessible via placing an ActiveX object on a form or report and then choosing either the Pie or Axis (bar or line) activeX component.

Attached was produced with SimpleChartLite (not an addon but what is included with Alpha/QRB) and was done via the function I mentioned prior which did the coding necessary (a basic scripting which has limits that hand coding would not have--but not many limits). Each graph has many attributes that can be changed via design mode, right clicking on the activeX object and choosing ActiveX Properties.

Also, if you look in your install directory of either Alpha or QRB you will find a SimpleChart4.chm help file.
