Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Email send via A5 Internal Mail

I have run into a slight problem using the Alpha5 internal mail.

I have an action script set up that sends an email message and then prompts the user whether or not they want to include a note in the memo field indicating an email message was sent.

This works fine if I have the internal a5 email client set up as a modal dialog box.

My users prefer it to be set up as a modeless dialog box because if the send fails, it doesn't close the email message and allows them to wait a second and then rehit the send button.

If I set it up as modeless, the prompt that asks the user if they want to update the memo field fires before they hit send on the email message.

Is there any way around this?

    Mark,
A sample with the problem would by far be the easiest way for myself or others to help with this (and most likely the reason for no responses). Even without a sample, at least the scripts and how exactly they are used and where they are used would be a basic start (a sample is much preferred).

      Thanks for the reply.

I've attached a sample showing my issue.

The instructions are shown when running the app.

      Thanks!

          Hi Mark,
Great to have a sample to work with--much less guessing!

What you have found is how a modal form/layout works...it allows you to say, from a press of a button, open up a form with a script and have any script that follows this opening that comes after is delayed until the modal form is closed (but the form is still in memory so variables and such can still be used from the "closed" form). Apparently the email modal must have a way to close itself out of memory as any other form has to have a secondary closure of a modal form to close it out of memory as well.

Anywho--my only suggestion as a different approach is to perhaps use the email_client_auto() function--I know everyone...this function does not appear in the help file--I found it when trying to find just email_client()'s arguments and the function helper listed it.

It seems to bring up a bit different interface (default email client I believe) so might not work for you--but something to try if another answer is not forthcoming. It does wait until the email is sent though before the messagebox is sent.

          Code:
          email_client_auto(param_to,param_subject,param_message,param_attachments,param_cc,param_bcc)
          LATER:: reread question/tested more---the email_client_auto() is also a modal layout....oh well.....

EVEN LATER---Mark HOW does the email fail? It may be something that can be trapped and give another option....
