Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Do you want to Refresh tables?

Next issue. My script loops through my customer table and checks to see if there are any invoices in the invoice table. If there are invoices it does a print.report to print the invoices for that customer. Problem is each time a new report comes up for a customer it asks if I want to Refresh tables. This slows things down to have to tell it No for each customer. Can this pop up asking if I want to refresh tables be turned off?

    Thanks,'

    Bill,
Show us your script....when I use either report.preview() or report.print() there is no refresh table dialog box that pops up (using xbasic or Action Script). There must be something else in your script that is triggering this.

Re: Do you want to Refresh tables?

      Bill,
My mistake--you are correct in that if a report is based upon a passive link table then the refresh dialog popup occurs....( I inadvertently had used a report based on a non-passive link table :o )

Not hard to work around this however. The easiest way I know of is to duplicate the table/set your report is based upon, name it, and "unlink" it (right click the table/set and choose "Unlink"). This will keep all the fields, etc. the same as the original. Then copy your report to this new table/set.

To keep this new table "in synch" with the original passive link table, you will now have to--
Refresh the original Passive table/set you had, zap (empty) the new table/set, append from the Passive table/set to the new table.

Sounds like a lot of work but really isn't....and once you are familiar with this procedure it also opens up other avenues of working with QRB.

        Hi Mike
I see what your saying. Not really what I wanted to hear but it is a way. Hoping to keep it as simple as possible so staff can click a button and print. Thanks for your reply.

Absolutely agree...and once you have done what I suggested, the users will know no difference--they simply click one button that houses all the necessary scripts to do it. The tables would be refreshed and afterwards, the created table zapped, and then an append operation would run....all behind the scenes.

Letting the Alpha Genies do most of the scripting makes this process relatively painless for the developer.
