Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Hi Andy,

Welcome to A5! You are going to enjoy this journey and really enjoy this message board!

To answer your question....I would recommend creating a set where your customer is the parent and the pdf images are in a child table.

        Re: Adding Multi-Images to record

You don't "import PDF in to a set". PDF is one option after running a report. So if you now have a set as described, create a Report based on that set that displays your images. Save the report as PDF when viewed.

Ah, that's different. Some of the following will be unfamiliar to you if you have just started using Alpha, but give it a shot:
            • Place all of the PDF's in a subfolder off the web root, "docs" for instance. The webroot is typically c:\a5webroot, so your PDF's would be in c:\a5webroot\docs
            • Create a table to hold your document information. Add a field named "filename".
            • Create a Grid based on that table. For the filename field, make that a field type LINK, accept all of the defaults for that field type, except, make the Address Type = Computed from fields in the grid.
            • Make the Link Address = docs\{filename}. Do not use quotation marks.

Publish to local host and view the grid. The link should appear as your filename, hyperlinked. If you click it, it should open your file from the docs folder.

For your testing, turn OFF security framework at the server (Tools > Application Server > General tab).

Then don't all you need to do is make a
PDFiles .dbf Table, with a several fields
              eg
PDFid, PDFname, CutomerId and finally The File_reference field,
With the File reference field you can generate links as you see fit.

                Re: Adding Multi-Images to record

                Andy,

That was good advice you've received, but I'd like to suggest something a little different.

I have an event management application and one of the things we wanted was a place for the presenters to upload pdf's, ppt's, doc's or other materials that the attendees could download later. This may be similar to your situation in that the number of items for each event (each customer) can vary from none to several. You can see this here: http://www.asqpdx.com/Ev_History.a5w Scroll down and pick the 11/18/08 event and click "downloads". You 'll see several items listed in the dialog dropdown list. Click one and click "select". You can then download that item.

I also have a quality control application where documents and photos can be uploaded as attachments to a defective material report. Again, the number of items is not known in advance, and I use the same approach.

The key to this is the event id (in your case, customer id), which in the example is E0000045. I add this as a prefix to the pdf or doc name when I upload. Then I can use filefind.get() to create the list to display in the dialog.

I think Steve means in the component type
for the control as per pic
