Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I haven't patched in a long time. Nothing changed, 'cept I had dinner between the time it worked and the time it didn't.

Automatic Vista update? Otherwise, what did you have for dinner?

I just discovered you can Ping the localhost. Works fine.

My automatic Vista updates are set for 3:00 a.m., so I don't think it's that.

Still more: When I try to Stop the Web App Server, I get a lengthy scroll on the status bar, followed by a message "The Server was not able to shut down. Please try again."

Dinner was meatloaf, carrots, rice. Emissions are within the normal range.

Dan, I have the same problem. What registry keys did you clean up? I know enough to open the registry and change an entry, but not enough to figure out where the problem lies.

            Hi Jeff,

I don't know which ones I cleared. All I did was go through looking for references to Alpha Five and checked it against v9.

I really recommend the easy way first, as it happened to me a second time. When it happened the second time I just uninstalled A5v9 and then reinstalled my original install program. I am still using Build 1379 - 3161. So far so good.

              Dan,

Thanks for the quick response. Not to be dense, but I take it that you delete any keys refering to A5v9 that might be left behind after uninstalling the program?

                  Re: Error with page loading

I have the same problem with Live Preview. Web components will not display in Live Preview or with the browser.

I am running A5v9 on Vista Business. I have tried Dan Blank's solution of uninstalling, deleting all registry keys refering to A5v9. I also deleted keys for previous versions of A5 I had installed. Unfortunately, this made no difference after reinstalling A5 and the latest patch. For good measure, I turned off Windows Firewall to make sure that wasn't blocking the program.

I would appreciate hearing any ideas about the cause of this problem. I notice that Steve Workings posted about the same problem, yesterday. Any solution Steve?

Dan, when I tried it without the patch, the Live Preview pane would not open when I clicked on the tab. After installing the latest patch the pane opens, but the component cannot be viewed. Wierd. It's as if the server cannot find the component.

Yeah, the whole thing is weird. I am still using Build 1379 - 3161. I had the latest patch installed. It worked fine for a while, then bam! It is almost like there is a time bomb to stop the component from showing up. Hopefully Alpha Software will provide a new patch to fix this issue??

Still unresolved, though I haven't taken the time to uninstall and reinstall A5 yet. Just noticed, too, that my Live Preview on the component builder fails as well. No surprise, but I hadn't tried it 'til just now.

Has Anyone Been Able To Resolve This Issue?

I too am having issues with Live Preview.

                            I have uninstalled and re-installed V9 and re-installed Office (as per Rich's post http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...t=live+preview).

If anyone has been able to resolve this issue, can you please share what you did to resolve the issue?

                            Thanks,
                            Noel

Re: Has Anyone Been Able To Resolve This Issue?

I got my system working by uninstalling A5, then going to the Alpha Software Page and downloaded the complete version... no patches (in other words the Trial Version).

I then installed the program into a brand NEW folder. I also flushed out my localhost publish folder (in my case it was a5webroot). I just completely emptied it, all of it. Started A5, started the web server, and everything started working again.

                              Hope this helps.

                                Thanks Dan

Thanks for helping out Dan. I will install into a new folder and flush out my local host publisher folder.
