Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Alpha 5 v9 locking up?

Alpha 5 is locking up on me when I try to design/run a form. The only way I can get out is close through Task Manager. Any ideas?

    1. Windows system is a (gulp) Vista Premium Home
    2. During initial installation of Alpha 5 ver 9 I get an error that "GLJ9656.tmp has stopped working."
    3. I finish initial installation, install latest patch, Version 9, Build 1938, System Add-Ins build 3239.

    Thanks
    Thanks,
    Marc

I'm now using Version 12.4.4.4, Build 4335, Addin Build 4887

Re: Alpha 5 v9 locking up?

Did you install with admin rights?
How about in an actual administrator account?
Over the past year, I have experienced all sorts of problems with installing programs as a non-admin. I finally gave up.

      FIREWALL PROBLEMS:
How about your firewall? If using one with code execution / program control such as Comodo, your problem could be here. (I think my problems in the past may have also been related to it's defense features - program execution and system / registry protection settings.)

If a firewall silently says "no" and some things don't get "properly injected" into windows.... You get a mess.
(That's also what Comodo did to me - Thanks for the favor Comodo!)

I finally permanently disabled this part of the firewall.

      USER RIGHTS:
(In standard user mode, I've tried right clicking on installs, and running / installing them as administrator. Also tried standard installing after ok' ing increased privileges...

Finally decided to run vista as an administrator. (but not using the special reserved administrator account built into vista.) -- Create a regular account, and then change it to admin rights.

      I'd try the following....

Fully uninstall the software (and or rollback system)
Make sure your are installing as administrator.

I will also tell you that a very few programs (not Alpha) require me (to this day) to go into my Actual Vista System Administrator account (hidden by default but available via the policy editor) to properly install / update program. One of these is Comodo itself. Unless I install updates here, I still get "process failure."

There is one absolute fix. Get a Mac.
(I almost did, because it's registry free.... But then I wouldn't be here using Alpha5.)

      Good luck.

It's all about the "framework." (I suppose an "a5-induced" hard drive crash is now in order?)

Re: Alpha 5 v9 locking up?

        Hi,

It could also be due to a bad filter or sort order set in the form properties or a bad script on one of the form events, worth checking out.
