Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Hi Charlie,

    Isn't that a tree with folders as images?

        Hi Mike,

        :)
        I can't hardly leave anything alone; that is, unmodified....so....

        I added a bit to your code (in red) as when opening, it automatically triggered the messagebox....figured if others who simply copy/pasted code or wanted to see how an easy mod was made, I would show them (letting others like MikeW do the heavy lifting--mods are easy...coming up with the original code is the harder part!).

        Code:
        [COLOR=Red]dim flag as L=.F.[/COLOR]
        dim item_selected as C=""
        images = <<%dlg%
        $$folder
        %dlg%

        ' Description for following code: '5=image (ball) list; 1=image list on select; .=tree control; 5=ball list
        list = <<%dlg%
        1+1 2007 Access Aplications1.1item1

        1+1 Alphabackup
        %dlg%

        ui_dlg_box("Tree Control Images",<<%dlg%
        [%S=BLR;I=@images%.30,15item_selected^<list!menuitem_change];
        %dlg%,<<%code%

        if a_dlg_button="menuitem_change"
        [COLOR=Red] if flag=.F.
            flag=.T.
          else
            msgbox(item_selected)
         end if[/COLOR]

          You guys are too much!!

          I have saved your code in a safe place. I only hope when I come to use it, I remember which safe place I put it.

            Keith,
            That is almost right out of the documentatons under xdialog references tree control. Their images I changed are balls ( which I didn't amend in the commented descriptions). So if that safe place gets lost, you can look there.

              That works fine from a button, But I would like to place the tree on a form so that it is visable all the time. Much like an HTML collaspable tree.

              Thanks

                  Hi Mike,

                  I did know about the Xdialog tutorials but not how to use the Folder images.

                  As I know Charlie has been using Alpha for longer than me, has helped me many times. I felt all he needed was a nudge inthe right direction.

                  Seems like he has done what most customers do, "that looks good, can you make it do this....".

                  Just teasing Charlie.

                    Re: Collaspable Folders in desktop Application

                    What my goal is to replace the 1st 2 browses (see attached JPG) with some type of tree control (maybe activex) so that it is always visable on the form and when a user clicks on an item in the tree, the browse on the right will be filtered.

                    Any ideas

                      Hi Charlie,

                      I think the idea of the Tree is to navigate to somewhere rather than just filter a browse. I could be mistaken about that.

                      How about a progresive lookup?

                          Along the lines of Mike's Example.....

                          Take a look at the Xdialog Supercontrol. The attached image is from an application I wrote that utilizes this methodology. You can just place a hidden button on the form with code to have the corresponding entry in the menu push that button to filter the browse however you want.

                          Also, check out the example I put in the code archive a little while back.

                          Regards,

                          Jeff
