Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    A5 components in Grey Boxes

    I'm looking at embarking on a journey placing A5 Components in Grey Boxes, or Thick Boxes or ext Boxes.
    Notethese are javascript shallow popup style windows.
    Basically from one component I wish to create another component that will reside in the Grey Box.
    Has anyone any tips before I start off. eg;
    Don't do it the guy down the hall tried it and we haven't seen him since. or,
    Its easy I did that last milenium without any fuss,
    Any experiences appreciated.

    By box do you mean a popup window with little or no "chrome", as in scrollbars, etc.?

      Basically Yes.
      http://www.ajaxdaddy.com/demo-greybox-window.html example down the page.
      I believe the difference between a box and a popup, is that most popups, created actual new instances of the browser, . Whilst the box is really a child window of the original browser.
      I have read somewhere (somewhere out on the web) where these boxes fail with doing certain activities within, eg some of them can't play flash.
      -
      The visual effect I'm trying to produce on a site requires some thing like a child box or popup. But as popup blockers exist, I want to steer clear of them.
      I want to investigate whether I can do full A5 component behaviour in a box.
      (If not, I'll find another way)

        Re: A5 components in Grey Boxes

        The Alpha Five Web Applications Demo includes an example of the Alpha Five AJAX window, which is the same concept.

        Example 10.12 Tutorial on how to create message boxes and pop-up, dragable windows.

        One major difference is that the Alpha window can be moved on the page. The content of the window can be filled and repopulated with an Ajax callback. The example doesn't show the technique, but Version 10 will include very easy methods to do this for you.

          Check the WAS sample apps that ship with Alpha5, it's all in there you just have to customise a stylesheet etc.

              Good luck - I'd recommend just trying out the popups first and only starting on the style sheets when you're ready :)

                Thanks Andrea,
                One piece of syntax is elluding me so far,
                Calling a javascript function from within the CSS
                eg onClose :
                is it ?
                onClose : 'closeDlgProc()'
                onClose : 'closeDlgProc'
                onClose : '{closeDlgProc()}'
                //

                I have quickly learnt that managing the onClose will provide benefits,
                suggestions as always welcome;

                  Not 100% sure what you are on about there... I am pretty sure this definition would be in the JS on the "hosting" page not in any CSS....

                    Ah Ok
                    From the " /AJAX_PopupWindows.a5w" Tutorial Page that Jerry Pointed out,
                    There is a list of properties for the 'a5_AJAX_window' settings object. ,
                    The very Last one is onClose : ,
                    and the hint that pops up says;
                    A javscript function that will be calledwhen the window is closed by user interaction with the close button in the title, or one of the buttons in the footer. The function will be called with a single argument - the value of the button pressed.
                    Not that I know mush in respect to CSS and jscript, but I also didn't know that javascript could be called from a CSS.
                    Then maybe I'm misreading this.

                      It looks like it's the in-page Javascript that simply defines what happens for the OnClick event, not the CSS. I think so at least... by no means an expert!
