Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    I haven't, but if you try it in this scenario, it won't work.
    Change the variable (and thus the filter) then run <form>.basequeryrun() you still get the the original records. It probably would work on a form based on a table, or the parent, but does not work with an embedded child browse. I didn't try hard to figure out how or why. Maybe you have more patience than I do, it just seems like an exercise in futility.

      G, my testing was with a form based on a single table. It works fine there. It does NOT work correctly with the linked child table in a set based form. I missed the distinction in my testing, prior to posting.

      While I had trouble using the basequeryrun() method against a linked child table, it's not too terribly difficult to change the basequery filter in code. Hopefully you'll never need this, but in case you do, here's a simple example.

        Mike,

        Thanks everyone... we coded around it
        Can you share what you did to get around the problem? Might help out someone else in the same or similar boat.

          We dropped the basequery and coded it in a way similar to what Peter suggested.

            Tom,

            Although yesterday we dropped the basequery altogether... and coded around the situation... I just tried the method you posted in your example and it works with our particular application.

            Thanks for taking the time to put together the example.

              Re: Refresh Embedded Browse

              I know this is an old thread...

              but I am trying to implement this idea in a form, and I got it to work (almost). The problem is; it always throws me back to the first record. It works on the first record, but if I navigate to the second, third, etc record, and run:

              parentform:tables:child_table_name.filter_expression = "Your_Item="+s_quote(vItem)
              parentform:tables:child_table_name.order_expression = ""
              parentform:tables:child_table_name.query()
              parentform.resynch()
              browse_name.refresh()

              it pops me back to the first record. Why?

              Thanks, Dan

                First record on the form or first record in the browse?

                If your browse is named browse_name just add

                browse_name.fetch_last()
                There can be only one.

                  Re: Refresh Embedded Browse

                  First record on the form (parent record). And parentform:tables:child_table_name. is referring to the browse table.

                    Here's an attachment showing the problem. Open the 'Products1' form and go to the 2nd record and the try selecting from the listbox in the bottom left...

                    works for the first record, but not beyond.

                      You are viewing a form based on a set but you are querying only values in the child table. There is nothing in the query to restrict the view to the current parent record. When you run the query you get every record satisfying the query.

                        Well, that make sense, but what is the right way to do it?

                        I just want to filter the browse to show only the records of what is selected in the listbox, for the current parent record.
