Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Memo Fields - Spell Check V5 to V8

    We have recently upgraded to V8 from V5

    On a form we have an embedded browse. That browse contains a memo field. On the row double click, the memo field will open so you can type the needed information. In V5, you could highlight what you typed, right click, and your editing choices would come up. In that box was a choice for 'Tools' and under Tools, you could chose Spell Check. I am attaching a screen shot of what I am talking about.

    In V8, the 'Tools' option is not available. The box just goes up to 'Properties'.

    Any clue as to how to get the 'Tools' to show up?

    Thanks for any help you can provide!

    What is the code for the onrowdblclick? When I open a memo field I see a spellcheck toolbar button next to the close.

      I am attaching the OnRowDblClick code and the script for the Script_Play associated with this form.

        In the onrowdblclick event code there is a line

        vreturn = a5_rtf_editor(r,"Summary Text")

        The function a5_rtf_editor() is no longer in the documentation though it does appear in the autocomplete. The replacement seems to be a5_rtf_editor2().

        I doubt this is the issue but you might give the change a try.

            Re: Memo Fields - Spell Check V5 to V8

            Well,

            I didn't peruse the code too well.

            Code:
            script_play("SummarytxtInsert")
            end
            'more stuff later
            The end statement means that all the onrowdblclick event code does is to play the script.

            The script doesn't invoke the rtf editor, it displays the contents in an xdialog. Thus there is no spell check available.

            Do you use the same code in V5? I think it must be the older version without the script.

              It is exactly the same code in V5 --

              Did not change a thing when we installed V8.

              On a good (or should I say GREAT note) ---Only a few other 'bumps' using our database from V5 in V8.

                Can you attach a sample of the set upon which the form is built?

                    Nevermind.

                    I was able to deduce enough from the script to reconstruct the tables, at least well enough to run the script.

                    I do see the behavior you describe. I am unable to find anything in the database setting which would cause this.

                    Sorry I couldn't help.

                      Didn't work. Disregard.

                      By the way, I would change the onrowdblclick event script as indicated in red....

                      Code:
                      script_play("SummarytxtInsert")
                      end
                      [COLOR="Red"]'below is no longer used
                      'event code moved to SummarytxtInsert script[/COLOR]
                      xbasic_wait_for_idle()
                      and leave the rest of it as is.
