Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

No records In Query Error message

I have a form that is based on a set. Currently the tables are empty. If a menu button calls the form (with AS) I get an error message " NO records in Query". If I open the form through the control panel it opens properly.

When you create an Action Scripting element to open a form or browse you can specify, among other things

Optionally, specify the record selection criteria to apply in addition to those defined in the layout. Note that you can specify to enter a new record.
Check the "innards" of your action script to see if you set a filter.
    There can be only one.

      Hi Stan,
I deleted the Action & reapplied it. All I am doing Is using the "Open Form or Browse Layout" Action and specifying the form. I am not doing anything else (other than to do no other criteria) and I still get the error message.

        Barry,
Is there a query event on the Form OnInit, OnFetch, or OnActivate Form Event, or on the OnArrive event for the first field in the form that gets focus when the form is opened?

That is strange. You didn't happen to define any child table filters in the set definition?

There is only a Set Index.

Try the Accounts Button on the Main Menu.

You have an order expression for the account form

                L_name+F_name

I believe that until you enter the first record this causes the failure because Alpha is really evaluating a filter and an order expression to put the records in the order you want. The filter is .T. to show all records, but that fails without any records, thus the message.

Putting it another way, you can't open a form based on an empty table/set without starting a new record but your action script tries to do that.

Still don't understand why I get no error message when opening the form directly from the control panel.

Your action script attempts to order the set by last name and first name and display the records found in that fashion. It fails.

Opening from the control panel throws the form into enter mode since there are no records (default behavior).

                        Stan,
Would appreciate it if you can try the following, Add a couple of Account records. Exit the form. ReEnter the form activate the Accounts Tab and go into Enter mode. You will see that the screen switches to the List Tab. I need the screen to remain on the Accounts Tab. Any Ideas?

Try editing the form's oninit event, use action scripting, objects properties, activate an object, choose last name. Having trouble here doing that but I think it must be a problem with v8/v9 since I'm using v8.

Alternatively create an action script inline xbasic with the code

                          tabbed1.tab_set(2)

                          for the same event.
