Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    New Browse

Can some one tell me what the "new" browse is about.
I downloaded the patch but I am not sure what is new with it.
    Thanks.

You are not alone. I haven't a clue either.

      Re: New Browse

part of the difference is that browse bugs are being fixed in the New Browse only (my understanding). If you have tried both, the new browse has significantly less problems in some areas and additional problems in other areas---but eventually there will be only one patch offered--that of the New Browse.

Other than having downloaded and installed it and one bug vs another bug, what is the difference? Are there new features we're supposed to be seeing?

When was the new browse first released?

Is there a list of the new browse features?

        Thanks,

          Re: New Browse

Kenn, you might try searching for related message board threads. When the new browse first became available it was described as a replacement for the existing browse. Developed with entirely new code and done in a way that would permit features to be added easily later on. I inferred from this that they were aiming to match the features of the existing browse, but do it with entirely new code. Once the existing feature set is solid the new design is supposed to make it easier for them to add enhancements (and fix bugs) down the line. I also inferred that the new browse is what will be shipped with version 10 when that becomes available. I'm not aware of any "new" features that have been added to the "new" browse for vers 9, beyond that which is available with the "old" browse in vers 9.

Selwyn has confirmed most of Tom's inferences in an e-mail discussion he and I had over a bug fix.

              Re: New Browse

This brings up something I've been wondering about: How can you tell by looking at or using the program if it has the new browse or old browse. Unless I installed it, I don't see a way to determine which browse is installed.

Maybe to the end user it makes no difference.

                Re: New Browse

I have noticed it is smoother in operation, the scroll bar on the right is more precise and I personally have had fewer problems with the new browse.

I think from Alpha's point of view, there shouldn't be any visible differences as it is the background code they are trying to correct. There have been several posts on the wishlist forum that are to do with browses and they are probably working towards implementing these in a later version, hopefully:D
