Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Problem with SQL - SQL State is: 42S02

I have designed a grid based on a view of a SQL database that is located on another server (the view)
When I test it in ALpha 5 with the preview button it works just great. AELAB is the name of the view.

When I publish it to the website (on another server) I get an error: "208 - [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid object name 'AELAB'. SQL State is: 42S02". I cannot figure it out. Does it have to do with security???
Hope somone can give me some pointers.

    Hi Roelof,

I don't think it deals with security... Most probably the problem is in the way how you define the connection string to the MS SQL.

The other thing that seems strange for me is that on you screenshot the text of SQL text is invisible.

    Hope it can help,
    Olga

You don't see the sql because it is a view.

This is theSQL statement for the view

SELECT dbo.MachineWithDeleted.Name AS MainName, dbo.BuildingRoomRack.BuildingName AS MainBldg, dbo.BuildingRoomRack.RoomName AS MainRoom,
dbo.BuildingRoomRack.RackName AS MainRack, dbo.MachineWithDeleted.AssetNumber AS MainAsset, MachineWithDeleted_1.Name AS HostName,
BuildingRoomRack_1.BuildingName AS HostBlds, BuildingRoomRack_1.RoomName AS HostRoom, BuildingRoomRack_1.RackName AS HostRack
      FROM dbo.VMInstance FULL OUTER JOIN
      dbo.MachineWithDeleted LEFT OUTER JOIN
      dbo.BuildingRoomRack ON dbo.MachineWithDeleted.RackId = dbo.BuildingRoomRack.RackId ON
      dbo.VMInstance.MachineId = dbo.MachineWithDeleted.MachineID FULL OUTER JOIN
dbo.MachineWithDeleted AS MachineWithDeleted_1 FULL OUTER JOIN
      dbo.BuildingRoomRack AS BuildingRoomRack_1 ON MachineWithDeleted_1.RackId = BuildingRoomRack_1.RackId ON
      dbo.VMInstance.HostMachineId = MachineWithDeleted_1.MachineID

Yes, but most probably there should be something like

        Code:
        select * from my_view
where my_view there is a name of your view. I'm also using MS SQL in my proj, view name is short_user. I can base component directly on the view or via select from the view. In both cases my component screenshots look differently from yours (please see attached).

I am receiving the same error but I am receiving it when I am editing a current record and press the save button. Here is the error message:

Error in SQL_DO_Work: Database API specific error

Your database has returned the following error code and description to Alpha Five.
Consult your database documentation for further information.

          208 - '[Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0][SQL Server]Invalid object name 'dbo.BOOK'.
          SQL State is: 42S02
[Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0][SQL Server]Statement(s) could not be prepared.
          SQL State is: 42000'
