Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Where are the scripts files?

With Alpha Five version 9, objects like forms are normally edited in a graphic interface. Instead of using the graphic interface, it is possible to open the script file of the form and modify the form from this point?

    Thank you for your help!

No, it's not possible. If you like script, use xdialog.

I'm not sure I follow you. The code that creates the form layout itself is not editable. Changes must be made through the gui. Having said that I hasten to add that the behavior of the objects in the layout, and the behavior of the layout itself can be modified by code (scripts) that manipulate or alter various property settings of the objects involved. There is no "script file of the form" that is accessible to us.

Re: Where are the scripts files?

My question concerns the use of A5Doc created by Bill Parker, http://partec.net/index.html and sold by AlfaSoftware http://www.alphasoftware.com/shop/it...asp?PRODID=131.

I have used this software to find a field in my database. A5Doc informed me that it found the field in one of my forms in line 71 (and in two reports), and that I have only to click the button "Edit" to reach this line and modify it. When I click "Edit", it is the graphic interface of the form editor who opens and from this point, I wondered how I can reach the line 71.

Because my form contains an important number of fields and tabs, I had thought that it would be simpler to open the script file of the form and to reach the line 71 as the help file of A5Doc indicates it to me. I am not certain, but I believe that it was possible to do with Alpha Four. Notice that my database contains no script which I created by myself.

Thank you all for your help, now I know that it's impossible to do. A5Doc is a fantastic software, but I believe that the help file and the procedure of installation need to be revised.

Normally the scripts A5DOC picks up are those which you have written and attached to an event in your form, or associated with a control on your form. Do you have scripts attached to any form level events? To any controls?

No Tom, I wrote no script or macro in my database. I am a beginner with databases, and I use only the graphic interfaces and some simple formula to create my database. The field that I was looking for was not either a formula, but a numeric field in the format n 12,5.
