Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

To anyone at Alpha -- What tab control is used for Select database/Control panel?

Can someone from Alpha share with the forum whose Tab control Alpha uses in these two places:

    1. Select database window
    Tab Database & Tasks
    Tab News & Updates

    2. Control panel open forms at the bottom of the Alpha Screen.

I found a similar, modern tab control from Adroit Technologies (http://www.adroittech.in/ )
but here's the statement on their web site:

    Code:
    Languages Supported
Smart Tabbed Dialog Control supports Visual Basic 6.0 only
as this Control is especially built for VB. Even though it is an
ActiveX control it cannot be used with other control containers
(such as Visual C++, Delphi, etc.) as these do not offer
Containment Of Control. It is possible to use the tab control
without control containment in many other environments,
however we only support this product when used with
    Visual Basic 6.0.
Am I to interpret this as a blind alley for Alpha Five? Does Alpha offer Containment of Control? And by the way, what exactly is Containment of Control?

If Alpha can share with us the source of the control they use, then our forms can look this good.

I just tried the Adroit control and the form won't even run without errors, so it's a no. I'm a bit surprised though... if it's Activex it should work... at least to some degree.

      David,

I was almost drooling when I found the Adroit tab control.

Isn't it a beauty? What more could an Alpha developer want?

Just about any shape tab you could wish for, automatic OneNote color schemes, etc. Very nice.

So again I repeat my plea to Alpha:
      1. If your tab control was written by you, please let Alpha developers use it.
      2. If your tab control is a third party product, please tell where we can obtain it.

Two days later and not a peep from Alpha. Are these guys monitoring forum postings anymore?

I sent a General Inquiry via the web site requested where this control can be purchased.

The Outlook control looks good too. Maybe A5v10 will have similiar goodies?

            Bill,

One can only hope. My real concern is that desktop developers are going to get the short shrift on version 10, as Alpha repositions this product for web development.

I've heard it said that forms are going to made obsolete, which is not encouraging news considering that the web controls appear to be less capable than the existing form based ones.

              Bob,

Have you looked at tabbands, under what's new in version 8 in learning Xdialog?

              Bill,

Have you seen accordions in the HTML supercontrols available with forms?

              Both,

There are also tabs available under HTML supercontrols and I am sure with a little programming you could get them looking/working how you want without the bother of working with activex
