Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    e-commerce shopping cart

    Hello
I have purchased A5V9 which includes
    AlphaSportsWebV8
I have installed this in the directory
    D:\Program Files\A5V8\Samples\AlphaSportsWebV8\AlphaSportsWebV8.WebProjects\Default.WebProject

Can anyone please say how I get started with this shopping cart.

I also notice on a webinar concerning e-commerce there are three versions
    Basic, Pro and Customn.

I have looked for information on these but cannot find any details except on page
    http://www.alphasoftware.com/shop/it...asp?PRODID=534 it states
Alpha Sports Web is a full featured ecommerce application built on Alpha Five. You need Alpha Five Pro or Enterprise to edit the application and the Alpha Five Application Server to deploy it.

What to do, any help much appreciated
    Thanks
    John

I'm in the same boat as you. What have you done so far? I have went in and deleted the sample records and entered my own. I have published the file to see what it looks like. I have changed some of the pics from Alpha Sports to my own.

          Re: e-commerce shopping cart

          Guys,

We went through this last nite too. There needs to be a help file or setup guide for this but we have not heard of one. The shopping cart is one area especially when having to deal with the credit card setup etc...

Maybe there is a guide out there but I do not know. So we decided to build our own.

            Re: e-commerce shopping cart

I am trying to follow the examples supplied with A5 for a web site
            When I open A5 I go to File I can see a link pointing to D:\Program Files\A5V8\Samples\AlphaSportsWebV8\AlphaSportsWebV8.adb

This opens a page Welcome to AlphaSportsWebV8 Application.

If I click on Control panel I have a message box appear: Quick Start with some sections.

Under getting started there is: quote
"You are probably anxious to build your first page that displays data from a database.
Here are the steps to get started:

First create a Grid component using the Grid builder. See tutorial
Next, create a new .A5W page using the HTML editor. See tutorial
Insert your Grid component on the page. See tutorial
Click the Live Preview button on the toolbar (it's the button with the lightening bolt)."

"See Tutorial" are all links but they all go to the same place http://www.alphasoftware.com/support/
I cannot see the logic in this, maybe something I dont understand, maybe a mistake.

Its so frustrating I just cannot seem to get started

              Re: e-commerce shopping cart

When I open the AlphaSportsWeb, I have a web menu and at the top is a link to the desktop. I click on that and I get a AlphaSports Menu. I click exit and then I have a control panel of Alpha 5. Then I went to the tablels and emptied then ones that had the sample data. Then you have to go back to the web menu and click on the server settings and I don't remember where I finally found that, but it tells you how to set up the server setting so you can publish. After you publish, then you can see what it looks like. Then you can go back to the desktop to add you products or if you log in on administration, you can add or delete products there. THen if you want to change the look, you will have to go to the destop, to web projects and then finding ways to change layout seems to be pretty hard. I have to search all of the components to figure out how to change pics or layout. It looks to me like oscommerce is easier to work with and its free or works with the web site I already have.
I thought the Alpha Sports Web was a "Turn Key" ecommerce package based on what I read on the Alphasoftware site. There are no instructions that I can find. Its not like I have not searched because I have searched and can't find anything that helps.

I have some of my products added mow to see what it will look like. With what I have got accomplished now, if I want to start paying the hosting, I could have it going pretty quick now, but I still want to custimze a little more before I put it on the web.

              I hope this helps.

It is silly to ask, but have you purchased a5 server? You will need it to publish the e-commerce app.

                      Thanks David,
I went through your instructions (above) for the cart and I can see what your doing but I cant see how to create a working cart out of this. I too have searched for instructions but cannot find anything. Maybe they do not exist?

                          Re: e-commerce shopping cart

I did run though the publish routine with the present products and then launch the application, the left side images dont appear and if I add items to cart, then go to Shopping cart/ View cart I get the message There are No Items in Your Shopping Cart.
As I can get no Alpha support and there are very few if any instructions I have almost given up.
