Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Stuck with pie chart :(

    Hi,

    since I'm new to A5 and stuck trying to create a pie chart on a web page, I'm hoping somebody can help me ...

    What I need is a pie diagram, which shows the gender distribution of our patients. To achieve this, I have worked through the samples in the online help ("Placing SimpleCharts on a Web Page") and AlphaSports. Unfortunately, I can't seem to code the diagram from the "set.external_record_content_get()" correctly. Nonetheless, I imagine it can't be all that difficult, since querying the distribution of female/male of one table isn't that complicated :o

    Thus my questions in this regard:
    1. Does the set work with active link tables?
    2. How do I code the set.external_record_content_get()?
    3. Anything else I need to observe, to make the diagram work?

    Thanx in advance,
    Uwe

    Re: Stuck with pie chart :(

    Uwe,

    If you are getting the data from a table, not a set, then you want to use
    "table.external_..."

    The following code produces a histogram, not a pie chart, but you may be able to gleen some insights from it:

    Code:

     <%a5
    '==== get crlf list of caused by names for all dmrs
    '=== by definition, caused by is All
    Dim vList as C
    vDateFilter=between_date("Dmr_Date",ctod(session.Pareto.Startdate),ctod(session.Pareto.EndDate))
    vList= table.external_record_content_get("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\dmr_log","alltrim(to_blame)","",vDateFilter)
    vList=remove_blank_lines(vList)
    dim vCBList as C
    dim vCount as N
    '==== get a crlf list of unique caused by names
    vCBList=word_unique(vList,crlf())
    '==== get number of unique names
    vCount=line_count(vCBList)
    '==== create an array of names and percent or quantity
    i=1
    dim vCB[vCount] as P
    for each x in vCBList
     vCB[i].name=alltrim(x.value)
     vCB[i].qty = word_occurs(vList,x.value) 'count in the original list
     i=i+1
    next
    '==== descending sort of array
    vCB.sort("D","qty")
    '==== add the data to the chart,but limit to the first 15
    if vCount>15
     vCount = 15
    end if
    '==== create the chart
    Dim chartX as P
    chartX = ole.Create("SimpleChartLite.AxisChartGenerator")
    for j=1 to vCount
     chartX.DataSeries.AddBarSeries(vCB[j].name, scFillModeAutoSolid)
     chartX.DataSeries(j).SeriesData.Add(" ",vCB[j].qty)
    next j
    '=== finish creating the chart
    chartX.caption = "Pareto Analysis of DMR's by Responsibility"
    chartX.legendpos = 3 'bottom
    chartX.unitaxislabel = "quantity"
    chartX.height = 400
    chartX.width = 590
    Response.mime_type = "image/jpeg"
    ? chartX.SaveToStream(2)
    delete chartX
    %>
