Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Deleting blank pages in rtf letter

I have created a rtf form letter. I somehow created two additional blank pages to the letter. How do I delete them? Delete command at the bottom of the first page does not delete the following two blank pages. I tried Control + Delete and Alt + delete also.

    Leo,
I am uncertain of what you are trying to delete....blank pages can be due to several issues....some curable as easily as setting a property to shrink the band (in the report editor), even just an object too close or over the report/margins, or even a page break can cause extra pages at times. I usually use the report editor instead of the letter as many more features to use.

A sample would be by far the easiest for me and others to discern what the problem is.

Re: Deleting blank pages in rtf letter

      Mike, Thanks for the reply.

I created a letter as I have a large mailing with four fields per letter plus the addressee. My problem is that (somehow?) I created two blank pages for the letter. When I print I get one page of form letter followed by two blank pages. I need to send the letter to two hundred addressees. When I print I will get two hundred letters with four hundred blank pages mixed in. This will be a lot of reloading paper in my printer. I wish to delete the blank pages in the letter.

I did not think of using a Report format as I needed to generate a letter. Next time I will give it a try.

Somehow Alpha thinks that you want those extra pages. Something in your definiton of the letter is forcing the extra pages.

It can be a variety of issues.

Page size set too large, objects expanding, page overflows.

Now that you have the letter working (except for the blank pages), you should create a new letter and move one thing at a time until you find what is causing the blank pages.

Mike's suggestion of a report is also a good idea and is very easy to do.

Create a new blank report based on the same table/set.

Al, Tried report, import letter. That worked fine except it imported the two blank pages too. I did stumble onto a solution. Preview the letter then click on file, print. Tell Alpha to just print page 1. Not elegant, but works for me.

I have to agree with Al. Something on the report is either to large or is expanding to overflow the margins or it may be that the printer margins are too small for the report. Either would be evident if the extra pages show up in the report (letter)preview.

From a non-expert, I just tried this on a report. Look at your footer sections Have you expanded any of them beyond any information you want printed on them. I have a report (see attached). If I take the "page footer" for the report and increase its size beyond what's on the screen then the "report footer" is printed on page 2.

Never mind, I just realized you were inquiring about a letter, not a data report. I'm not well educated in RTF items. They are not easy to do.

Well, just did it on a letter which has no footers, dragged the bottom of the screen beyond the bottom of my letter and it printed a blank page
