Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    project possible ?

    Hello all,

I would like to know if the following project is possible to develop in Alpha5 ?

I am a surgeon in a local hospital and currently we work with SAP for the planning of our surgeries.
This application is very user unfriendly and cumbersome.
I want to develop the same kind of planning module in Alpha5 customized to my departement of orthopaedics.

What we do daily is when we have a patient in front of us who needs surgery we open the planner, browse through the next days or weeks and look for a free space. Before we used a simple paper agenda where a whole week was visible and when the page was turned the next week was shown.
We then should be able to enter the patient data and choose the type of surgery. There should be a database of all standard surgery procedures with time needed for the surgery so that a planning is possible for the day.
We should be able to see wether a day is already overbooked or if there still is some space left to operate...

We need to be able to move patient around the schedule very easily. I mean is it possible within A5 to design an application in which you can just pick up a patient from tuesday with the mouse and drag him to friday or from tuesday 14.00 to tuesday 12.00 ?

Can anyone give me feedback one this, it is very well appreciated..

    yours,

    Olivier

    Re: project possible ?

    Olivier,

A5 does not support drag-and-drop. Having said that, there is a web scheduler out there that someone built using A5 and AJAX (hand coded, I believe) w. drag-n-drop.

Otherwise, changing an appointment should be simple enough in any case. Here is one way of doing a scheduler:

I'll second Peter's response. I'm wondering if doing this with web components and the javascripting/AJAX in version 10 will give us understandable tools to create drag-drop functionality...

I did see a demonstration of drag and drop on Richards blog using Ajax but cant find it at this time. So the answer is yes it can be done in V9, but assistance will be needed.

How many surgeons and how many operatories/locations will the application need to support?

So, as a desktop app the drag n drop would not be available... i already read that in another thread... that's too bad...

Changing the sequence can be done differently, but we have 10 minutes per patient when they're seen in the clinic and so being able to just pick up the patient and drop him as the first in the list would be very little time consuming..

We are with 4, but when developping i would suggest to use an indefinite number of possible surgeons ?

Although not as nice as drag and drop, there would be no additional time involved (actually would be faster!) by simply being able to doubleclick on patient and have it added that way.
