Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Print PDF or RTF letter works localhost but not on VPS

    Have a letter to print in PDF based on data in the .dbf. All works fine published to localhoast. Code for sending to PDF basically comes from help file.

    Code:
    <%a5

    if eval_valid("Id")
        if Id[1] = ""
            goto IdNotSpecified
        end if
        dim filter as c
        dim order as c
        filter = Id.dump()
        filter = *for_each(x,"Id = " + val(x),filter)
        filter = strtran(alltrim(filter), crlf()," .or. ")
        order = ""
    	pSet.JpegQuality="High"
        dim filename as c
        filename = session.session_folder + chr(92) + "templetter.pdf"
        filename = letter.saveas("individual_ltr@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\supplementaldata.dbf","PDF",filter,order,filename,.f., pSet)
        if file.exists(filename)
            response.redirect(session.session_url + "templetter.pdf?" + time("hms3"))
            end
        end if
    else
        IdNotSpecified:
    end if
    %>
    Published all files (including data files) so the letter is there on the VPS.

    The error I get is below. It is not the error that is trapped by the code but seems to indicate a path problem.

    500 Internal Server Error
    "Script Error
    Error:
    Amyuni Low Level Print:
    Layout name: individual_ltr@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\...mentaldata.dbf
    Layout type: letter
    Letter not found: 'individual_ltr@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\supplementaldata.ddd'."
    My Alias is defined as
    [PathAlias.ADB_Path] = c:\A5V9\data\FitSup
    in the setting for publishing to the VPS. It is correct in terms of the absolute path to the data files. I have verified that they are there and they are the ones I published. Have done it several times.

    I thought this might just be a case of not having Acrobat on the VPS but even if I try to print an RTF or CSV, I get the same error.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    This part is wrong:

    \supplementaldata.dbf",

    should be : \supplementaldata.ddd",

      Thanks. Tried that. Error is about the same:

      500 Internal Server Error
      "Script Error
      Error:
      Amyuni Low Level Print:
      Layout name: 'individual_ltr@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\supplementaldata.ddd
      Layout type: letter
      Letter not found: 'individual_ltr@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\supplementaldata.ddd'."
      Either .dbf or .ddd will work on the localhost.

      Neither .dbf or .ddd works on the VPS.

      Alpha Printer is setup on the VPS.

        Steve,

        Since this error is being returned from the Alpha Server on the VPS, shouldn't [PathAlias.ADB_Path] be resolved and reporting the absolute path in the reported error? Or I guess maybe the problem with the Script never lets it get that far. Slightly confused.

        500 Internal Server Error
        "Script Error
        Error:
        Amyuni Low Level Print:
        Layout name: 'individual_ltr@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\supplementaldata.ddd
        Layout type: letter
        Letter not found: 'individual_ltr@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\supplementaldata.ddd'."

          Try changing the [PathAlias.ADB_Path] to the actual path (c:\xxxx) and see if that works. If it does then at least you know where the problem lies. If it does not work, then make sure you have published the report to the server. In my case, that is usually the problem.

            The error always shows the alias if one is used. How do you know your report is on the server? Did you publish your database files?

              One other thing to check is to see if the VPS server is 32bit or 64bit. If it is 64bit, then you need to make some modification to the PDF driver. Do a search on this board for 64 bit pdf driver and you will find a post about how to make the change. It is easy to do.

                Re: Print PDF or RTF letter works localhost but not on VPS

                This is ther error after providing the absolute path instead of [PathAlias.ADB_Path] which is set to the same path anyway.

                500 Internal Server Error
                "Script Error
                Error:
                Amyuni Low Level Print:
                Layout name: 'individual_ltr@c:\A5V9\data\FitSup\supplementaldata.ddd
                Layout type: letter
                Letter not found: 'individual_ltr@c:\A5V9\data\FitSup\supplementaldata.ddd'."

                Steve, I am positive the files have been published. I have RDCed into the VPS and short of a checksum algorithm I have verified the size and date/time of the database files. Originally I published them and specified the database files also be published. I have sence published again and copied and pasted using RDC just to make sure.

                I seem to have partely cured it by compacting the database and then publishing again. But now the PDF does not show all the images (they were embedded by the way). Before compacting the .DDM file was over 14 MB in size. After compacting it is just over 8 MB and works partly now.

                I really think there is a file size issue with these report and letter formats. I have several images in my letter which seem to bloat it even though the images themselves are quite small.

                Anyone create letters and reports with several images that can report on how it worked on the WAS?

                  Re: Print PDF or RTF letter works localhost but not on VPS

                  Multipule compacting has the .ddm file size down to just over 4 MB now. It now works very well on the VPS.

                  One other issue now is the fact that the PDF formatting is not the same as returned by the WAS on the VPS as it is on the localhost. Fonts look the same but space between paragraphs and images is different and underline and bold is much bigger in the PDF returned from the WAS on the VPS. This resulted in page overruns. I have corrected the formatting to account for it but at lost to explain it. Using the same Alpha print driver on the local host and WAS.
