Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

This is a perfect example of functionality that is very important to implement - yet not the stuff you want to spend billable project hours on. V10 will give you the tools to take care of this nearly effortlessly - so that you can apply your project efforts to the Core of the real business requirements.

      Richard,

This is just unbelievable. Every feature in and of itself is a huge enhancement. The only problem with all of this is that I cannot sleep - I am so excited!

If I am not mistaken A5 V9 does not let you do the cascading grids (if that is what you call it) for desktop applications on browses.

Will the desktop version be able to either :
        1. easily include a HTML section with this functionality, or
        2. have a browse control with the ability to 'cascade' built in?

AS an accountant I like the idea of being able to browse through a listing of transactions in one account, click on a suspicious transaction and see the entire source journal entry directly beneath it.

          Dan,
browse through a listing of transactions in one account, click on a suspicious transaction and see the entire source journal entry directly beneath it.
Sounds like an easy scenario for the desktop (actually can also be done on a report situation even). Don't need HTML or cascading feature at all .

Transaction table parent, 1:N to a Journal_Entry child table.

Start a different thread if this is an actual question.

            Re: codeless ajax

I've done it with two separate browse windows since my dBase days. I also figure it can somehow be done with conditional areas in reports.

Its just the idea of having it all in one vertical browse intrigues me.

May have misread the nature of what you stated as I now see it in a different light....having it in one browse. It would have its uses.

I have been using V10 Beta for a while and I have to say, WOOOOOOW.
I am not a coder, or far from a web page designer with SQL integration. This new version does it ALL.
                It is truly amazing.
Even the company that I work at, big M, bought the Alpha5.
I have to say thank you ALpha Software for such a unbelievable product.

                      Great features !

It seems we are going to evolve to a tool where business people can create great responsive web applications mostly themselves, without the need to hire specialists for most of the stuff...

This will raise the overall functionality and time to market of web apps. And will lower the costs involved.

It will also let a lot of people to consider moving more towards the business-end (the what) instead of the technical end (the how) to get things done.

                      regards, Ron

                        Re: codeless ajax

I think what it does is allow developers to build more efficiently - and sometimes deliver higher functionality. I really don't think any tool will change Who should be doing the building. Yeah - everyone will try to hack - but at the end of the day, anything a business really needs to depend on needs to be designed by someone who knows how to design. There's a whole lot more to app building than just configuring screens.

Few casual developers on the planet can lay out a good database design.
                        Nothing will change that.

I am not on the beta trial (but wish I was) It seems from the videos that Selwyn and the gang are close to achieving for the WAS what they have managed to do for the desktop, that is, create a development tool that really, really allows the developer to focus on delivering a feature rich experience for clients in a timescale that is just not practicable in most/ if not all other systems.

With a lot of fancy web sites out there delivering good experiences the expectation is that all should be like that. Version 10 is going to go a looong way towards helping achieve this.
