Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    V10 recommendation

    First of all...
I love it and I have only been using the beta for about 10 minutes!

So, I thought I would plug in a suggestion for those that may be converting their apps. I am re-modeling the e-commerce app and decided to update all my grids because the system recommends it every time I open a grid that does'nt have Ajax turned on.

Anyway the suggestion is to have a "turn on Ajax for all grids button" so that the user doesn't have to do it one at a time. Maybe a select all or select some option would be better than just an all button.

If there is a way and I missed it, please let me know.

    Hope this helps!

It's like anything else. Anyone who has spent time on the desktop forum has seen countless examples of people who build "applications", but have no idea what they are doing. Many of these people (and their apps) would be fine using a simple spreadsheet (as verses a complex spreadsheet). When I was in the surveying-engineering business, everyone I met was a "surveyor" or "engineer". Not quite. A lot of people can slap something together, but to make it work, more or less bulletproof, in a serious business environment over a long period of time, is something else again.

codeless AJAX rich text editor in Grids

        Rich Text

The grid contains a built-in HTML editor for editing rich Memo fields. This video demonstrates how rich Memos can be edited in the Grid part and the Detail View part.
        - In the Grid part, the HTML editor is configured as a popup editor - it is opened when you click on the field
        - In the Detail View, the HTML editor can be configured to edit 'in-place'.

Your post time is interesting Richard ;). Get some sleep.

What would be the price of AlphaV Platinum V10, for those of us that own V8?

I am interested in Oracle connectivity, but had problems with V9 trial version getting a form to be based on an Oracle stored procedure that returns a result set (A cursor in Oracle Parlance).

Pricing has not been finalized yet but it wont be radically different from previous pricing.

Version 9 users will be eligible for preferrential upgrade pricing

If you have an issue with oracle and stored procedures email me please at [email protected]

I have viewed the videos and believe this will ensure business consultants like our self can provide business applications to solve real business.

I can wait to try v10.

                      Re: codeless ajax

I have watched the videos, and I am super excited about version 10. With some help, I've been gradually adding some ajax to my version 9 web app. And it's amazingly fast and powerful. The thought of not having to code the ajax is very exciting.

Will the Alpha HTML editor be upgraded/changed in version 10?

I've started to add some javascript/ajax (spry objects) in Dreamweaver that the WYSIWYG editor can't handle, so I can't open the a5w pages in the WYSIWYG in Alpha.

It would be fantastic if the HTML editor evolved to be able to handle this kind of code.

Thanks for all the work. Really looking forward to upgrading.

If you use Firefox with "Ubiguity" as an add in then any HTML text box element has an automatic inline online spellchecker with custom dictionary feature enabled.

v10 preview "codeless AJAX" - Liquid Forms and Watermarks

Two videos that show off tools in v10 that help in building applications where screen real estate is limited (such as a AJAX web app that will run on an iPhone or a smart phone)

"Liquid" Forms Smart phones are an increasingly popular platform for running web applications. On a smart phone, the screen real estate is severely limited. This video shows how the Grid makes it easy to design 'liquid' forms - forms that automatically reconfigure themselves based on the screen size.

                            Watch Video http://www.screencast.com/users/Alph...0-1f74a935367b

Watermark Fields Watermark fields allow you to put the field label inside the field itself. If you are designing forms where screen real-estate is limited, watermark fields are a great way to save space.

                              New features request for v10

this might be totally out of time but ill give it a shot

Recently I was testing a Project Management software called Attask (@task), it used Ajax extensively and it has a super cool feature in grids, GROUPING.
YES GROUPING, you choose a field and the application will group rows together by adding an extra row before and after each group (like in reports)
the 1st extra row (at the beginning of each group) has the title of the group
and the 2nd extra row (at the end of each group) has the sumarization of numeric fields.

Come on Rabins I know you can do it too ;)
                              regards
                              Cheers

Window Options The Action Javascript builders make it very easy to create buttons that open other Grids, Reports, Pages, etc. in pop-up windows. You can also open up the target Grids, Reports, etc. in new 'Panes' in the Tabbed UI builder. These videos show some of the Window options such as:

                                Multiple modeless window
                                Re-using the same modeless window
                                Setting the window title
Opening a new pane in the Tabbed UI Object.
