Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Robert

all of the drives are on my machine my install logs match yours.

The installed pdf drivers from other applications show in the Alpha print selections.

Alpha requires the drives that are provided by Amyuni. when a pdf is created it is unreadable.

Adobe Reader which is on all my machines can read pdfs when properly produced. alpha's softwae is looking for the Amyuni driver to properly convert the reports to a PDF.

What my get passed to one of the other PDF dirvers is not translated correctly.

      You said-

When you go to Save As from a report preview, do you get a screen like the attached? If so, When you go to PDF options, is there anything checked? If you don't get that screen, which I think you've previously stated, then I think the A5 installation is messed up.
I don't think that Adobe Reader will show up as an option in Control Panel/printers since it's only a reader. It's doesn't show up in my list of printers but then, in regards to A5, it doesn't matter because A5 uses the Amy... printer to create PDFs. Adobe Reader is shown in Control panel/default programs to be the default program for a .pdf file.

What my get passed to one of the other PDF dirvers is not translated correctly.

I don't know what this means.

Your thumbnail view is what I do not have. Those four are not available to the alpha software.

I'm wondering if the Save As screen is being hidden by the preview screen? Everything else seems to be in order. When it is open, you should see Control Panel and the name of the report that is open at the bottom left of the screen.

I would also go to Views\settings\preferences and perhaps enable Xp themes and check what settings you have for Old Toolbars and Old Menus. While in there, see if there are any other settings that might affect this.

If all else fails, as a registered owner of V8, you should be getting an e-mail to download a full version of V9 for free. It is compatible with V8. I would try to download it and see what happens.

            Robert:

installed Ver 9. Same result. Truned off spyware. re-ran amyuni install program. No change. The four drivers not available. reviewed th display settings and could not find any old themes or taskbars.

I have uninstalled ver 9. I am resigned to start using some other software as the print drivers are needed to create the PDFs.

            thanks,

during the install of Ver 9 the following message appeared:

GLJAC3A.tmp failed to load. I had to cancel.

Unistalled and retried to install and received message:

Re: A5V8 on Windows Vista Home Premium

I've attached a copy of the A5 pdf drivers I have on my computer. They go in Program Files (x86)\A5V8.

You can try replacing the corresponding files on your computer.

If that doesn't work, I'm suspicious of your copy of A5V8. Either that or your Save As window is being hidden, as I mentioned before.

                  Robert:

I have identified a problem with the port assignments. I re-started the entire process.

re-installed ver 9. printer assignment failed.
un-installed ver 9. clear indication that print drivers were removed.

Ver 8 ran installamyuni. drivers installed. drives not visible.
Assigned Alpha printer to NUL: port and saved.

started application and created the pdfs.

re-started my PC and the NUL: port disappeared.

Created a new NUL: port assignment. No PDF created.

Repeated all of the above steps. Can create PDF again.

I guess I can never turn the PC off If I wish to create PDFs.

Did you try the drivers I sent you?

Did you make sure the Save AS screen isn't being hidden?

Are you on a network? If so, you may want to go to Windows Firewall and allow an exception for A5.

If the A5 amy.... is on Com1, maybe there's an IRQ interference. Might check it out. I don't think defining another port is the problem. Go to device manager/ports/com1/resources and see if there are any conflicts.

Totally untried on x64 Windows, but there is a (free) product called doPDF which might be a solution. It creates a pdf printer.

Re: A5V8 on Windows Vista Home Premium

                        Hi:

I spent 3 hours with Microsoft attempting to correct the problem.
they could not fix it. They are attempting to place all of the blame on Alpha. Knowing this is not x64 software is partially to blame. But they are not saving the applied nul: port assignment.

I uninstalled all prior versions of Alpha on my PC and then installed Ver 9. Still could not create a PDF until assigning the nul: port. On estart the nul: port goes away. I have now removed ver 9 and re-installed my prior versions.

The doPDF software might work but it will capture the print stream and then ask for the name and location of the file. This would be unacceptable in the production enviroment.

I will investigate further, until then future use of Alpha is suspect on the newer systems.

Re: A5V8 on Windows Vista Home Premium

Why is Alpha suspect on newer machines? Mine is only a year old with 64 bit Vista OS and, at the time I bought it, had almost all the latest and greatest you could buy. A5 runs just fine on it.
I think if you had another 64 bit vista machine with a working version of A5 available so you could go into the properties of the A5 printer and check the settings against the other, you might find the problem. It might be a sharing problem setting or something like that. Do you have print directly to the printer checkmarked? All kinds of things like that. The A5 printer should not be checked marked when you go to settings/printers.

You shouldn't have to be fooling around with trying to assign it to another port. If the port is not retained, then that's a Windows problem.

It should work but it doesn't.
