Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Updating the main grid with info from the child grid in a tabed grid linker

    Hello

    This is my AfterUpdateRecords code for a child grid in a tabbed grid linker.

    function AfterUpdateRecords as v (Args as P, PageVariables as P)
    with PageVariables

    dim tbl as p
    dim rec as N
    tbl = table.open("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\debtoraccount")
    tbl.order("Statuscode")
    rec = tbl.fetch_find(Args.DataSubmitted.R1.Accountid)

    tbl.change_begin()
    tbl.Statuscode=Args.DataSubmitted.R1.statuscode
    tbl.change_end(.T.)

    tbl.close()
    end with
    end function

    I would like to update the Status code in the main grid of this tabbed grid linker with information selected in the child grid.

    thanks in advance for any help on this issue

    I don't see a specific question, but what you have should update the underlying table but won't change the value on the grid without some additional coding.

    Does the value in the table change?

    And do you want to refresh the grid - are other values changing also? Or do you want to have the main grid change when the lower level value changes? You'll need some AJAX code to do that.

      I have a lookup that when a result code is selected, it also selects a status code related to that result code. I posted the above code in the AfterUpdateRecord event and it does not update the main grid in the tabbed grid linker, I guess my question is what addotional code would be needed to make this work correctly. It is updatating a record but not the one I want it to.

      Thanks

        Since you are doing a fetch of the record via the Accountid - you'll need to set the index to the accountid index (if you don't have one make one...) but it may already be there.

        I'm not sure what the tbl.order("Statuscode") is doing to help you here...

        All of this changes the underlying values in the table. A refresh of the browser will then show those new values (F5) in the objects that are on the web page.

        Once that is working, you can use AJAX to change values on the screen at the time the child value is changed. I don't have code handy to do that. Perhaps someone else does.

          Al
          thanks for all your help.

          the code now works correctly this is what I did

          function AfterUpdateRecords as v (Args as P, PageVariables as P)
          with PageVariables

          dim tbl as p
          dim rec as N
          dim indx_1 as P

          tbl = table.open("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\debtoraccount")
          indx_1 = tbl.index_primary_put("Accountid")
          rec = tbl.fetch_find(debtoraccount->accountid)
          tbl.change_begin()
          tbl.Statuscode=Args.DataSubmitted.R1.statuscode
          tbl.change_end(.T.)
          tbl.close()
          end with
          end function

            if rec > 0 then

            tbl.change_end(.T.)
            else
            'didn't find the record so I couldn't update....... on the web - can't use a messagebox but you could put some kind of code or not.....
            end if
            tbl.close()
            end with
            end function
            For additional bullet-proofness, you may want to consider the code in red.

            Alpha fetch_find gives a positive record number if it finds an exact match, otherwise is returns a negative number with the closest match.....
