Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Zero records locks browse

Hi, I've tried this on Alpha sports with the same result. I made a browse from a set....to display invoices. I then created a query routine to ask for invoice dates to display invoices for just that date. The query and browse work fine if there are records for the date you select. If you select a date that is not in the browse, you get an error message. You then select 'OK' and the blank browse opens but it is locked for any kind of action except min/maximizing and dragging around the window. The only way to get rid of it is 'Ctrl/Alt/Del' because the database won't close either no matter what I try. Please can anybody help?

    Richard,
I do not have a clue with the sparse information you have given.

I created a browse based upon the Invoice table, used the query genie to run a query with a non-existent date, received a No Records error, pressed OK and was back where I started and had no issues.

Maybe you are doing something different...I could only guess at your procedure.

Open Alphsports, create a browse from invoice set, include invoice number, contactid and date. Save and close. Operations tab..create new query from the invoice set using 'Query records', 'invoice set', 'using query genie'. Select 'Date', 'Is on the date', 'Promp at runtime' , enter prompt click ok. save the query and close. Open the browse in design mode and and select 'Event', 'OnInit'. 'Add new action' , 'run saved query'..select the name you used for the query. Save and close. Run the browse and select a date not in the records..try to close the browse....ctrl/alt/del close alpha5 works. If you enter an existing date press pgup to get out of new record mode. I will use 'Send key' in the final action. I think I need to include an If..Then function but don't know how to. I'm playing with 'Show all records'

        Richard,
I have no issues at all. But the operation you are using opens up an instance of the default browse...not the created one. This is not what is wanted am sure---unless there is yet another difference between what you have done and what I mimiced from your instructions.

Truthfully I don't use a saved browse as I prefer the additional ways to control the similar embedded browse on a form (which can be made to look like just a browse too).

If you still have issues....and have compacted your database, restarted Alpha, rebooted your pc, etc., then the next step is to attach a sample for us to see the issue in context.
