Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: 3rd Party Ajax Calendar/Scheduler Challenge

I have a calendar created with a dialog component. It is not interactive but provides a selectable month and year view. We specifically use it to see who is on vacation. Retrieving data from the vacation table. It's not terribly exciting, but fast, works well and could be adapted to display meetings or any other time/date related "stuff". If there is any interest I'd be happy to freely share the dialog component.

Well I found the archive but I see no difference if I post it here or somewhere else. This is where all the calendar discussion is going on...so forgive the possible indiscretion.

            Mike,

We are interested in this. We have a need for a scheduling system for staff manning a helpline. We would need to have the names of the staff as rows and the hours of the day as a roster.

We do need this quite urgently, so please can you email me on [email protected] or PM me.

            Thanks

            Alan

I have prepared a screencast of a visual reservation control that I have been working on for a new version of A1-RES (per www.a1software.net) which is being developed in version 10 and is totally ajax based.

The visual control will support context sensitive tips via Ajax callback, drag and drop + visual resizing.

It is very fast as all rendering is done at the client end via Javascript - so only data changes are ever sent to browser.

If there is strong demand I will release this as a control you can incorporate into your applications. So I will monitor posts. To view screen cast click on

Mike did you ever finish this application, I am looking for a job scheduling calendar and this would work because on the left I would put the people's names.
One important thing is though if things change would it be possible to have email send out to people?

                    Thanks

I am very interested in this as well, but I have heard rumours about an alpha-five addon calendar that sounds promising...

I like the visual layout with rows in this design so i am still very interested!!!

                            Hi Keith:

The videos are impressive. However, I'm working with desktop apps and this may be more difficult to implement. In a recent post Richard said that it "could" run as a web page under local host mode! (Without the full 3rd party license). I am not clear on how to do this. I will review the videos and experiment. Look forward to help any one can offer.

                            Thanks.
