Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Cron & Curl

I've read and participated in threads regarding cron and curl. Up till now I have simply relied on the Windows scheduled task manager to fire my .a5w pages I wish to run automatically. Problem is, as noted before, this opens the browser each time fired. This is fine if you want or are able to go to your server and manually close them out.

I'm getting tired of doing this!

I hope someone is willing to give an example of a curl line that will fire my AdmMaint_Day.a5w page. I understand Cron but if someone has the desire to give a complete example (Cron and Curl) of the entire process that would be very appreciated not only by me but others I'm sure. :)

BTW: I'm changing my 11 directory structure shortly.

    Re: Cron & Curl

    "C:\cURL\curl.exe" -d "VAR1=%WD_FILE_B%" http://MYURL/THE_PAGE_I_WANT.a5w

This is a sample .bat file I use with WatchDirectory, VAR1 is then available as a page var in the page you cURL.

      Re: Cron & Curl

      Hello Andrea,
      Thank you for the sample!
If that is a bat file, could I not use the Windows Task Manager to fire the Curl line instead of Cron?

Correction: According to another post...you need Cron if you don't want the browser to open when executing the .a5w script.

        Re: Cron & Curl

Curl doesn't use a browser at all, so it will not open one whether you launch it from a command line, Scheduled Tasks or cron.

          Re: Cron & Curl

Well I get the following error (please see pic) when I attempt to run the .bat file. Can't find -d.

When I use: START "C:\cURL\curl.exe" http://socialservicenetwork.com/11test.a5w the browser is launched and correctly runs 11test.a5w BUT I don't want the browser to launch.

Note: 11test.a5w is now disabled for security reasons.

The Curl I am using is from Steve Wood's site.

            Re: Cron & Curl

The above issue is resolved. I didn't have Cron in the correct directory C:\Curl

This now works but only with my first page.

I have a sequence of 5 pages I run every morning. I have a response.redirect("pageX.a5w") at the end of each page. I know they are not executing because I have an email sent to me on the last page confirming script completion and I'm now not receiving it. This worked with the other method where the browser would load.

This is my current curl line in my .bat file:
            START C:\cURL\curl.exe -d "VAR1=%WD_FILE_B%" http://socialservicenetwork.com/AdmMaint_Day.a5w

Any help very much appreciated! :)
